    oolong teas

Oolong is a traditional Chinese tea produced through a unique process including withering the plant under the strong sun and oxidation before curling and twisting. Most oolong teas, especially those of fine quality, involve unique tea plant cultivars that are exclusively used for particular varieties. The taste of oolong varies widely among different subvarieties. It can be sweet and fruity with honey aromas, or woody and thick with roasted aromas, or green and fresh with bouquet aromas, all depending on the horticulture and style of production.

Our oolong loose leaf teas are sourced from a variety of tea growing countries, from China to Taiwan and Ceylon. Although oolong is manufactured according to Chinese techniques and using Chinese plant cultivars, the tea does not need to be grown in China. We simply choose the teas that taste the very best from a variety of the finest oolong producers around the world.

Similar to other black teas, drinking oolong tea has many health benefits, including: antioxidant properties, may boost heart health, may improve gut health, may lower blood sugar, may lower ‘bad’ LDL cholesterol, may help with weight loss.

We stock some of the most famous oolong teas from some of its most renowned producers.

The wonderfully named Supreme Dong Ding oolong, aka Dung Ting from Taiwan is a wonderful example of this high-grown tea (Dongding means ‘frozen summit’ or ‘ice peak’). It is a tightly rolled tea with a light, distinctive fragrance. For a very light and floral oolong we suggest trying our Baozhong, aka Pouchong. Or for a peachy, smooth and floral tea you must taste the Fujian grown Tieguanyin. And for those you wishing to try something a little different we recommend giving our ginseng flavoured oolong a go!
