Dammann Freres

Known as one of the most prestigious tea companies in the world, Dammann Freres has developed a reputation for its expertly developed blends. We are proud to stock a wide range of their teas, including some of their most popular varieties.

The History of Dammann Fréres

Indeed, in France in 1925, two brothers and great tea lovers, Robert and Pierre Dammann, created the commercial enterprise known as Dammann Fréres. The family name actually goes back to 1692, when they were involved with the supply of tea, coffee and chocolate.

Moreover, their know-how and quality made them the official supplier of the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique — the celebrated and prestigious French Line.

Furthermore, after World War II, the history of Dammann Fréres took a different turn with Jean Jumeau-Lafond at the helm. This great tea lover was responsible for exceptional creations such as the famous Russian blend Goût Russe Douchka, the Christmas Tea and the Apple Tea — all of which we stock today.

Our Dammann Freres Selection

Indeed, we love the smart black 100g canisters, which keep your tea fresh and which you won't be ashamed to display on your kitchen counter. We also supply a selection of Dammann Fréres cristal sachets — similar to tea bags — available in boxes of 25 or 50.

In fact, our most popular teas include the Earl Grey Yin Zhen sachets, the China Gunpowder, and the Strong Breakfast — a perfect blend of Ceylon, Assam and Darjeeling. Also highly recommended is the 4 Fruit Rouge tea, with cherries, strawberries, raspberries and gooseberries.

The Dammann Fréres Lapsang Souchong

Additionally, for a winning accompaniment to savoury dishes and weekend brunches, do not miss the fabulously smoky lapsang souchong. It is truly exceptional and speaks to the quality of everything this remarkable brand produces.

A French Tea House with Royal Heritage

The story of Dammann Frères begins in 1692, when the Dammann family was granted the royal privilege by Louis XIV to supply tea, coffee and chocolate across France — a fitting foundation for a house that would become synonymous with the finest in French tea culture. The modern commercial enterprise was formally established in 1925, when brothers Robert and Pierre Dammann brought their shared passion for great tea to life, building the business into the internationally acclaimed maison it is today.

    The Art of the Blend

After the Second World War, the direction of Dammann Frères passed to Jean Jumeau-Lafond, a true tea visionary whose legacy endures in some of the house's most beloved creations. It was Jumeau-Lafond who gave the world Goût Russe Douchka — a celebrated black tea blend inspired by his Russian wife's habit of adding a splash of fresh orange juice to her cup, creating a distinctive citrus-kissed character that remains an icon of the range. He also created the Christmas Tea and the Apple Tea, both of which continue to delight tea lovers to this day.

From the French Line to Your Kitchen Counter

Dammann Frères became the official tea supplier to the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique — the legendary French Line whose transatlantic ocean liners carried passengers between Europe and the Americas in the golden age of sea travel. It is a mark of the house's extraordinary standing that their teas were considered worthy of serving aboard the most celebrated ships afloat. Today, their Paris boutique at the Place des Vosges brings that same elegance to one of the most beautiful squares in the world.
