Assam Loose Leaf Tea from Tarajulie Estate
Tarajulie Estate lies in Assam’s Thakurbari district and has been producing tea since 1884. Grown at around 1,500 feet above sea level, this orthodox black tea comes from the second flush harvest, widely regarded as the finest part of the Assam growing season.
The result is a richer, deeper and maltier cup than the lighter spring harvest, with the strength and character that Assam tea drinkers look for. The FBOP grade, meaning Flowery Broken Orange Pekoe, uses a broken orthodox leaf that produces a brisk, full-flavoured infusion with excellent colour and body.
A Bold, Malty Assam with Real Depth
In the cup, Tarajulie FBOP gives a bright coppery infusion with a thick, full-bodied texture and a deeply malty flavour. There is a natural creaminess to the liquor, which makes it especially well suited to milk, although it is equally enjoyable served black.
This is a dependable, characterful Assam tea with enough briskness for the morning and enough smoothness for the afternoon. It has a satisfying finish that lingers without bitterness.
About Tarajulie Estate
The Tarajulie Estate is one of Assam’s most distinctive tea gardens. Its name comes from two lakes within the estate, Tara and Julie, and the garden sits between the Gabharu River to the west and the Dipota River to the east.
Spread across approximately 699 hectares, the estate includes areas of forest that provide shelter for local wildlife. Elephants and even the occasional tiger have been seen among the trees, adding to the remarkable character of this historic Assam tea garden.
How to Brew Assam Tarajulie FBOP
Use freshly boiled water at 100°C and infuse for two to three minutes for a bright, brisk cup. For more body and depth, steep for up to four minutes. Use one well-rounded teaspoon per cup.
This tea takes milk beautifully. A generous splash softens the natural briskness and brings out its rounded malty character. It can also be brewed as iced Assam tea by using double the leaf, steeping hot, then pouring over ice and leaving to cool.
Ingredients
Black tea Camellia sinensis.
