Blood orange fruit tea is one of the most vibrant and naturally rewarding loose leaf fruit infusions you can brew — and this blend of blood orange pieces, hibiscus, and rosehip brings together three ingredients that were simply made to share a cup. Naturally caffeine-free and full of bold citrus character, it is a genuinely versatile infusion that earns a regular place in the tin.
The blood orange is a remarkable fruit. Cultivated for centuries across the Mediterranean — particularly in Sicily, where the cooler nights draw out those characteristic deep crimson hues — it has a sweetness and tart complexity that sets it apart from a standard orange. In the cup, it produces a flavour that is at once fresh, juicy, and just a little tart, with none of the sharpness of a plain citrus tea.
Hibiscus brings both colour and character. The vivid ruby depth it gives this infusion is unmistakable, and its refreshing tartness sharpens the blood orange beautifully without overwhelming it. Ingredients: Blood orange pieces, hibiscus, rosehip.
Brewing Note: Use one heaped teaspoon per cup and pour over freshly boiled water at 100°C. Steep for 5 to 7 minutes — longer if you prefer a deeper colour and more intense citrus flavour. This infusion has plenty to give, so do not rush it. For iced tea, brew at double strength using two heaped teaspoons, allow to cool, then pour over ice. A slice of fresh orange or a sprig of mint makes a particularly good addition when serving cold.
