🍵 The Leaf — High grown Ceylon black tea finely milled in the Japanese matcha style, blended with 100% natural bergamot extract for a bold, citrus-forward cup with real depth

🍵 The Cup — A rich, full-bodied brew with a thick, frothy texture and a deep amber colour that deepens beautifully when whisked

🍵 The Character — Bright, vivid bergamot over smooth, malty Ceylon tea, with a pleasant astringency and a creamy, lingering finish

🍵 The Occasion — Exceptional as a whisked morning brew or an afternoon Earl Grey latte — versatile, distinctive, and unlike any standard Earl Grey

Earl Grey Matcha is one of the most original takes on a beloved classic — a premium loose leaf Earl Grey that applies the Japanese matcha milling process to high grown Ceylon black tea, creating something entirely its own. The result is a finely powdered tea that suspends fully in water, delivering the depth and body of matcha alongside the unmistakable fragrance of bergamot.

The Ceylon tea at the heart of this blend is sourced from high altitude gardens, where cooler temperatures slow the development of the leaf and concentrate its character. Milled to a fine powder in the Japanese style, the tea does not steep through water in the conventional sense — it suspends within it, producing a thick, frothy cup with exceptional body and a smooth, satisfying astringency. A pleasant brightness follows, which is distinctly Ceylon in origin.

What separates this blend from almost every other Earl Grey on the market is its use of 100% natural bergamot extract. Many Earl Grey teas rely on artificial bergamot flavouring, which can read as sharp or synthetic by comparison. Here, the citrus note is vivid and genuine: bright, fragrant, and perfectly balanced against the malty warmth of the Ceylon tea beneath it.

Earl Grey Matcha is versatile in preparation. Whisked in a cup or bowl, it produces a classic frothy brew. Combined with steamed milk, it becomes a smooth, full-bodied Earl Grey latte. Either way, the milled tea suspends evenly and the bergamot comes through cleanly.

Since 2008, High Teas London has been one of the country's leading independent tea specialists, with one of the largest collections available — over 350 teas and infusions sourced from the world's finest gardens. Teas this original are exactly what we are here to find.

Ingredients: High grown Ceylon black tea, natural bergamot extract.

Brewing Note: Earl Grey Matcha rewards a little care in preparation. For a classic frothy brew, use water at around 80 to 85°C rather than fully boiling — cooler water preserves the brightness of the bergamot and prevents any bitterness from the milled leaf. Add one teaspoon to your cup or bowl, pour over a small amount of hot water, and whisk briskly in a zigzag motion until a smooth paste forms, then add the remaining water and whisk again until a light foam appears on the surface. For an Earl Grey matcha latte, prepare the paste in the same way and top with steamed or frothed milk — oat milk works particularly well. The tea suspends evenly and the bergamot comes through cleanly in either preparation.
