Our Prince of Wales loose leaf tea is a smooth, refined afternoon blend of Assam and Ceylon black teas, lifted with a touch of Gunpowder green tea and a gentle hint of blackcurrant. Rich enough to enjoy with milk, yet elegant enough to drink black, it brews to a warm golden-red cup with rounded malt, lively brightness and a softly fruity finish — a classic tea for unhurried afternoons.

Prince of Wales Loose Leaf Tea for a Refined Afternoon Cup

Prince of Wales is a distinguished loose leaf tea blend with the poise and balance expected of a classic British afternoon tea. It brings together fuller-bodied black teas with a quieter touch of green tea and fruit, creating a cup that feels polished without becoming delicate or insubstantial.

The result is wonderfully versatile: smooth, mellow and satisfying on its own, yet more than capable of accompanying scones, sandwiches or a proper afternoon tea spread.

Assam, Ceylon and Gunpowder Green Tea in Balance

Assam black tea provides a warm malty foundation, giving the blend depth and substance. Ceylon adds brightness and a clean, lively quality that keeps the cup lifted.

A measured addition of Gunpowder green tea contributes a subtle grounding note and helps knit the blend together, while natural blackcurrant flavouring adds a soft fruity warmth on the finish rather than an overt sweetness.

Smooth, Rounded and Gently Fruited

In the cup, this Prince of Wales loose leaf tea pours a rich golden-red liquor with inviting warmth and clarity. The flavour is smooth and composed, with Assam malt at the heart, Ceylon brightness around the edges and a restrained blackcurrant note that lingers pleasantly.

It is fuller than many delicate afternoon teas, but softer and more nuanced than a breakfast blend — exactly the kind of tea that earns its place later in the day.

A Classic Afternoon Tea Blend

Prince of Wales is especially well suited to afternoon drinking. It has enough structure to pair with food, yet remains graceful and easy to enjoy on its own with a book, a quiet moment or guests at the table.

Serve it with milk for a softer, more rounded cup, or enjoy it black to appreciate the brightness of the Ceylon and the subtle blackcurrant lift more clearly.

How to Brew Prince of Wales Loose Leaf Tea

Use freshly boiled water at 95°C to 100°C and add one heaped teaspoon per cup. Steep for 3 to 4 minutes for a bright, well-balanced infusion.

For a fuller and richer cup, extend the brew to around 5 minutes. This blend takes milk well, particularly at the longer steep, but remains equally pleasing without it.

Ingredients

Assam black tea, Ceylon black tea, Gunpowder green tea, natural blackcurrant flavouring.

Not for me

I made the mistake of buying 250gm of a tea I’d never sampled before, based on its popularity and good reviews. However, no one in my family likes it at all and I keep offering it to friends, hoping someone might love it!

I am not a monarchist, far from it, but I am not going to argue about the tea. First rate stuff, and this is a repeat order.
