Our Assam breakfast loose leaf tea Hunwal Reserve GBOP is a bold, satisfying second flush black tea with vivid coppery liquor, deep malty strength and a distinctive sweet anise-like finish. Grown at the respected Hunwal garden in Assam’s Golaghat district, it is a proper morning cup with real character — excellent with milk, yet equally rewarding taken black.
Assam Breakfast Loose Leaf Tea from Hunwal Estate
Hunwal Reserve GBOP is a single-estate Assam black tea created for drinkers who want a strong, flavourful morning brew with more individuality than a standard breakfast blend.
The tea comes from the Hunwal garden in Golaghat, an area known for producing richly coloured, full-bodied Assams. This second flush selection captures that classic character beautifully: malty, bright and deeply satisfying in the cup.
Bold Malt, Coppery Brightness and a Distinctive Finish
In the cup, this Assam breakfast loose leaf tea pours a vivid coppery amber liquor with inviting depth. The flavour is firmly malty, supported by a gentle natural sweetness and an unusual soft anise-like note on the finish.
The brisk astringency gives the tea freshness and balance, making it feel lively rather than heavy. It is a tea that wakes up the palate and holds its appeal to the final sip.
GBOP Grade for a Full-Flavoured Morning Brew
The GBOP grade, or Golden Broken Orange Pekoe, uses carefully sorted broken leaf that releases strength and colour more quickly than a whole-leaf Assam.
That makes Hunwal Reserve especially well suited to breakfast drinking. It brews with confidence, develops good body in just a few minutes and delivers the bold, rounded character many tea drinkers look for first thing in the morning.

Outstanding with Milk, Rewarding Black
This tea takes milk beautifully. A generous splash softens the briskness, rounds the malt and creates a full, comforting breakfast cup with plenty of flavour left intact.
Taken black, Hunwal Reserve shows more of its natural sweetness and distinctive finish, making it an excellent choice for Assam drinkers who prefer a strong cup without additions.
How to Brew Hunwal Reserve GBOP Assam Tea
Use freshly boiled water at 100°C and add one heaped teaspoon per cup. Steep for 3 to 4 minutes.
Because GBOP is a broken-leaf grade, it brews efficiently and develops flavour quickly. Avoid pushing much beyond 5 minutes, as the astringency can begin to dominate the subtler sweet notes.
Serve with milk for a classic breakfast cup, or enjoy black for a more direct expression of the tea.
Ingredients
Black tea, Camellia sinensis.

I always enjoy your teas. I am not an expert so I can’t comment on the subtleties of the flavours or on how they are influenced by time of harvest or the height of the plantation. But I like what I drink.
We mix 250g of this with 50 each Darjeeling and Nilgiri to try and get as close as we can to the Empire Blend that Fortnum & Mason used to sell.
This is a lovely any time tea for me,strong and flavoursome. I love "High Teas" and have various other brews from them to suit different tea moods.I wouldn't buy my tea from anywhere else - their products are excellent as are their prices and service.Thank you🙏
its a very nice product
