🍵 The Provenance — Hand-plucked Cornish tea leaves from the Tregothnan Estate, blended with the finest Darjeeling — two great tea-growing regions united in one quintessentially British cup
🍵 The Cup — A bright copper-golden infusion, light and luminous, with a clean, refreshing character and a gentle lift of natural citrus
🍵 The Character — Delicately refreshing with invigorating citrus notes; lighter and more elegant than a traditional breakfast tea, with a soft floral quality from the Darjeeling leaf
🍵 The Occasion — Made for the ritual of afternoon tea — equally lovely at a desk or laid out beside a Cornish cream scone; presented in a box of 25 individually wrapped sachets
Cornwall is not the first place most people think of when they think of tea. But the Tregothnan Estate, nestled in a unique microclimate seven miles inland from the Cornish coast, changed all of that. In 2005, after years of careful cultivation beginning with the very first British tea bushes planted in 1999, Tregothnan produced England's first homegrown tea — leaves grown in Cornish soil, shaped by Cornish light, and praised at the time as the new Darjeeling.
This Afternoon Tea sachet box brings together the best of two worlds: hand-plucked Cornish tea from the Tregothnan Estate and the finest Darjeeling from the gardens of India — a union Tregothnan itself describes as pairing twins, given how closely Cornwall's growing conditions echo those of the celebrated Indian region. The result is something genuinely distinctive. Light, bright, and delicately refreshing, with invigorating citrus notes and a clean, luminous character, this is a tea that sits apart from the robust richness of a traditional breakfast blend. It is a cup to be savoured slowly, ideally around three in the afternoon, though it rewards equally at any hour.
The Tregothnan estate has been pioneering botanical firsts since 1334. The tea bushes themselves thrive in conditions that are often warmer than Darjeeling in India — protected from coastal winds, nurtured in rich soil, and harvested by hand from April through October each season. Each sachet in this box contains that same carefully tended leaf, sealed for freshness and presented in an elegant format that makes it as well suited to gifting as it is to everyday ritual. Dairy-free, gluten-free, and suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
Since 2008, High Teas London has been one of the country's leading independent tea specialists. With over 350 teas and infusions — one of the largest collections in the country — we have long championed teas with a genuine story behind them. Tregothnan is exactly that: British tea growing at its most ambitious, and one of the most distinctive cups you will find anywhere.
Ingredients: Black tea (Cornish-grown Tregothnan tea, Darjeeling tea)
Brewing Note: This is a tea that benefits from a little restraint with temperature. Use water that has just come off the boil and cooled for a minute or two — around 85°C — and steep for two to four minutes depending on how bright you like your cup. Tregothnan's own advice is worth heeding: this blend can be overwhelmed by milk, so do try it black first, at least initially. The citrus notes and the natural delicacy of the Darjeeling come through most clearly without it. If you prefer a touch of milk, add it last and in moderation. Each sachet is individually wrapped, which helps preserve the freshness of the leaf right up until the moment you brew.
