Our Decaffeinated Assam loose leaf tea is a bold, satisfying TGFOP1 black tea for those who want the malty depth of a proper Assam with very little caffeine. Rich, full-bodied and abundant in golden tips, it brews to a deep amber-red cup with warming malt, a subtle dark chocolate note and enough strength to enjoy black or with milk.

Decaffeinated Assam Loose Leaf Tea with TGFOP1 Golden Tips

This is a decaffeinated black tea that still feels like Assam. The leaf is graded TGFOP1, or Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe Grade One, a quality mark associated with well-made orthodox tea and a generous presence of golden tips.

Those tips bring a softer sweetness and a little extra refinement to the cup, while the broader Assam character remains bold, warming and deeply satisfying.

Rich, Malty and Full-Bodied

In the cup, this decaffeinated Assam loose leaf tea pours a rich burnished amber-red with excellent depth. The flavour is classically malty, supported by a gentle dark chocolate undertone and a clean, warming finish.

It has the reassuring body many tea drinkers look for in Assam, making it a very strong choice for anyone who wants a robust black tea later in the day without moving to a lighter herbal infusion.

Carefully Decaffeinated to Preserve Character

This tea is decaffeinated using the CO2 method, selected for its ability to reduce caffeine while helping retain the natural structure and flavour of the leaf.

The result is a cup that remains rounded, aromatic and substantial. It does not feel like a compromise, but like a proper loose leaf Assam chosen carefully for drinkers who prefer a lower-caffeine option.

Excellent Black or with Milk

Served black, this tea shows its malty depth and subtle cocoa-like richness most clearly. Add a splash of milk and it becomes rounder, softer and more traditionally comforting.

It is an excellent choice for late afternoon or evening drinking when you still want a cup with real black tea presence.

How to Brew Decaffeinated Assam Loose Leaf Tea

Use freshly boiled water at 95°C to 100°C and add one heaped teaspoon per cup. Steep for 3 to 4 minutes for a rounded, malty cup.

For greater strength and body, extend the brew to around 5 minutes. This tea takes milk beautifully, especially whole milk, though it is equally enjoyable plain.

Assam Decaffeinated TGFOP1 Loose Leaf Black Tea

Ok but pricey

I’ve usually found that I get as much enjoyment out of a double quantity of once-used tea leaves refreshed with a single quantity of water, the leaves having lost their caffeine in the first brew. This Assam decaf tastes much the same to me, but my brew is free!
