Our Nilgiri loose leaf black tea from Glendale Estate is a bright, elegant Orange Pekoe with coppery liquor, floral aroma and a distinctive jammy fruit depth. Produced during the estate’s prized January harvest, it offers a brisk yet beautifully smooth cup with real single-estate character — excellent enjoyed black, and equally pleasing with a small splash of milk.
Nilgiri Loose Leaf Black Tea from Glendale Estate
Glendale Estate is one of the Nilgiri district’s most respected tea gardens, producing distinctive South Indian black teas from the cool, misty slopes of the Blue Mountains.
This OP, or Orange Pekoe, selection comes from the estate’s sought-after January harvest, a period known for teas with greater clarity, fragrance and layered flavour. The result is a refined single-estate cup that shows Nilgiri black tea at its most expressive.
Floral, Fruity and Gently Jammy
In the cup, this Nilgiri loose leaf black tea brews to a bright coppery liquor with clean, luminous clarity. The flavour is lively and floral at first, followed by a lightly fruity richness and a smooth, jammy depth that lingers pleasantly.
It has briskness without harshness, giving the tea shape and freshness while keeping the finish rounded and composed.
Orange Pekoe Leaf with Distinctive Nilgiri Character
The OP grade uses whole, well-made leaf, allowing the tea to infuse gradually and reveal more complexity than smaller broken grades.
Glendale’s high-grown Nilgiri character comes through beautifully here: aromatic, polished and naturally smooth, with a fruit-led profile that makes it quite different from both malty Assam and muscatel Darjeeling styles.

A Refined Afternoon Black Tea
Glendale OP is especially rewarding taken without milk, where its natural floral character and jammy fruit notes are most clearly expressed. It is an excellent tea for slower afternoon drinking when you want something distinctive, but not overly heavy.
A small splash of milk can also be added, softening the briskness while preserving the rounded fruit depth of the cup.
How to Brew Nilgiri Glendale OP
Use freshly boiled water at 100°C and add one heaped teaspoon per cup. Steep for 3 to 4 minutes for a bright, lively infusion.
For more body and depth, extend the brew to around 5 minutes. Serve black to appreciate the tea’s floral and jammy character most clearly, or add a little milk if preferred.

Pure rounded flavour and absence of feeling of tannin. Perfect.
I mix this Nilgiri with Sencha to make a tea mix for my Kombucha. I use about 25% Nilgiri and 75% Sencha, the Nilgiri makes it deliciously floral and fresh!
I visited the Glendale tea plantation in March 2020 and saw the whole production process. I had not appreciated the difference between Orthodox and CTC tea before then. This is an Orthodox tea: it has larger leaves and produces a lighter but still flavourful brew. I was very impressed by the visit: the Nilgiri hills are beautiful and I saw elephants wandering amongst the tea bushes.
A really pleasant tea to drink.
