Our Darjeeling Margaret's Hope 2nd Flush loose leaf tea is a beautifully expressive FTGFOP1 black tea from one of the Himalayas’ most celebrated estates. Bright amber in the cup, fragrant and classically muscatel, it reveals notes of ripe grape, dark currant and soft wine-like depth, finishing with the clean elegance that makes fine second flush Darjeeling so rewarding when enjoyed without milk.

Darjeeling Margaret's Hope 2nd Flush Loose Leaf Tea

Margaret’s Hope is one of Darjeeling’s best-known tea gardens, and its second flush harvest is especially admired for aromatic depth and refined muscatel character. Specialist retailers consistently present Margaret’s Hope as a fruity, fragrant and highly regarded Darjeeling second flush, making it one of the region’s most recognisable estate teas.

This FTGFOP1 selection captures that reputation beautifully, offering a bright, elegant cup with enough complexity to satisfy serious Darjeeling drinkers while remaining wonderfully smooth and approachable.

Muscatel, Currant and a Refined Wine-Like Finish

In the cup, this Darjeeling Margaret's Hope 2nd Flush loose leaf tea brews to a warm amber liquor with excellent brightness and clarity. The flavour is distinctly muscatel, with a grapey sweetness at the heart, soft currant-like fruit, a gentle floral lift and a long, polished finish.

It is fragrant and full of character without becoming heavy, showing exactly why second flush Darjeeling from Margaret’s Hope has such an enduring reputation.

FTGFOP1 Leaf from a Celebrated Darjeeling Estate

The FTGFOP1 grade indicates a carefully made orthodox leaf with fine tips and a high standard of sorting. In this tea, that quality shows in both the dry leaf and the finished cup: aromatic, poised and refined, with the structure to carry its fruit and muscatel notes cleanly.

Competitor descriptions commonly emphasise the estate’s bright liquor, floral aroma and muscatel character, all of which are central to this tea’s appeal.

A Fine Darjeeling for Slow Afternoon Drinking

Margaret’s Hope second flush is best appreciated black, allowing its estate character, muscatel sweetness and aromatic finish to remain fully clear. It is especially well suited to a considered afternoon cup, served in a white or clear cup where the liquor and fragrance can be enjoyed properly.

A tea of this quality needs little embellishment — just careful brewing and a little time.

How to Brew Margaret's Hope 2nd Flush FTGFOP1

Use water at around 90°C to 95°C and add one teaspoon of leaf per cup. Steep for 3 to 4 minutes.

A 3-minute brew keeps the cup brighter and more fragrant. A 4-minute infusion develops fuller body and deeper muscatel richness.

Serve without milk to preserve the tea’s complexity. A second infusion is also worth trying with a slightly longer steep.

Darjeeling Margaret's Hope

This tea is far superior to anything available in supermarkets etc. I have been drinking it for some years and it remains on the whole very pleasant and refreshing. Recent batches have not been as good as earlier tea, but are still very good. I doubt you could find better at the price.

Lovely Darjeeling Margaret's Hope Tea

Darjeeling *Margaret's Hope* tea is exceedingly good, especially when mixed with a little Keemun *Huangshan* Orange Pekoe.

Darjeeling Tea

I have drunk Darjeeling tea for breakfast for many years trying several different estates and blends. But I always come back to Margaret’s Hope. Apart from the taste, which is excellent, it’s the story behind it. The quality of the service from High Teas also helps.

Always delicious

The post let us down with delivery but this was later rectified by High Teas. Margaret's Hope is a tea I regularly drink.

Use freshly boiled water (95–100°C) and steep 1 teaspoon of tea for 3–5 minutes, depending on your preferred strength. It pairs well with milk due to its malty character.
