Our Japanese sencha loose leaf tea Sencha Kakagawa is a fresh, elegant green tea with glossy needle-shaped leaves, a luminous green cup and a smooth, gently sweet finish. Steamed soon after harvest to preserve its vibrant character, it offers clean grassy notes, soft umami depth and a refined flavour that makes it a beautiful everyday Japanese green tea.
Japanese Sencha Loose Leaf Tea with Fresh Grassy Character
Sencha Kakagawa is a classic Japanese green tea style, loved for its bright appearance, clean aroma and smooth, refreshing taste. This version comes from Kagoshima Prefecture in southern Japan, a region known for producing green teas with clarity, freshness and satisfying depth.
The leaves are steamed soon after picking, then rolled and dried into slender, glossy needles. This careful processing helps preserve the tea’s vivid colour and characteristic vegetal sweetness.
Smooth, Lightly Sweet and Gently Umami
In the cup, this Japanese sencha loose leaf tea brews to a clear, luminous green infusion with a fresh grassy aroma. The flavour is smooth and rounded, with a soft natural sweetness and a gentle umami undertone.
It is refreshing without being thin, and flavourful without becoming harsh. Brewed with care, it shows none of the sharp bitterness that can make lower-quality green teas feel less refined.
A Beautiful Everyday Japanese Green Tea
Sencha Kakagawa is a rewarding choice for regular green tea drinkers and for those looking to explore Japanese tea beyond supermarket-style blends. It is light enough for all-day drinking, but still has enough presence to feel satisfying.
Enjoy it during a quiet morning, as a focused mid-afternoon cup or whenever you want something clean, calming in style and naturally elegant.

Best Enjoyed Without Milk
This tea is best served plain, allowing its fresh vegetal notes and smooth finish to come through clearly. Milk and sugar are not needed.
The leaves can also be infused a second time, producing a lighter, softer cup that is often especially smooth and delicate.
How to Brew Sencha Kakagawa
Use water cooled to around 75°C to 80°C. Add one heaped teaspoon per cup and steep for 1 to 2 minutes.
A shorter infusion keeps the tea especially fresh and bright. The leaves can be steeped a second time using slightly cooler water and a shorter brew.
