Our Nepal second flush loose leaf tea from Ilam Estate is a beautifully expressive Himalayan black tea with deep amber liquor, aromatic spice and a distinctive muscatel fruitiness. Fuller and more rounded than a first flush, this TGFOP leaf offers grape-like sweetness, gentle nuttiness and a smooth, lingering finish — an excellent tea for slow afternoon drinking, especially enjoyed without milk.
Nepal Second Flush Loose Leaf Tea from Ilam Estate
Ilam lies in the eastern tea-growing hills of Nepal, close to Darjeeling and shaped by similarly dramatic Himalayan conditions. High elevation, cool mountain air and careful orthodox manufacture help produce teas with fragrance, clarity and a character all their own.
This second flush TGFOP is a particularly rewarding example. It has more body than a spring first flush, while retaining the aromatic lift and finesse that make Himalayan black teas so distinctive.
Muscatel Depth with Spiced, Fruity Character
In the cup, this Nepal second flush loose leaf tea brews to a bright, deep amber liquor with warmth and definition. The aroma is rounded and gently spicy, leading into the prized muscatel note associated with fine second flush teas from this part of the Himalayas.
Expect a naturally grape-like fruitiness, a soft nutty undertone and a clean, satisfying finish that lingers without becoming heavy.
TGFOP Leaf with Greater Second Flush Body
The TGFOP grade, or Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe, indicates a well-made orthodox leaf with a good proportion of fine tips. It gives the cup both elegance and enough depth to feel substantial.
The second flush harvest adds richness and maturity to the leaf, creating a tea that feels more rounded and fuller in structure than lighter early-season styles.

Best Enjoyed Without Milk
This tea is especially rewarding taken plain, allowing the muscatel sweetness and aromatic complexity to come through clearly. It is a fine choice for unhurried afternoons, quiet mid-morning cups or any time you want a black tea with real nuance.
A small splash of milk can be added if preferred, but the most distinctive qualities of the leaf are best appreciated without it.
How to Brew Nepal Ilam Estate 2nd Flush TGFOP
Use water cooled slightly after boiling, ideally around 95°C. Add one heaped teaspoon per cup and steep for 3 to 4 minutes.
A shorter brew gives a more lifted and aromatic result. Extending to around 5 minutes brings out greater body and depth. A second infusion is also worth trying with a slightly longer steep.

I expected, from the description, great surprises, but sadly got none at all. Rather insipid. Must be my taste buds.
I was hoping this tea would be a convincing substitute for my favourite 2nd Flush Darjeeling which is proving very difficult to find (or at least at an affordable price). The website promised a muscatel note but I don't get that. However, it makes a perfectly enjoyable cup of tea.
The best afternoon tea available. I first met Ilam tea in a tea shop in Ely many years ago and I have drunk nothing else in the afternoon since. It took me a little time to find a supplier but you have kept me supplied over the years. Thank you
Dark copper colour. Refreshing, mildly astringent tea.
Enjoyable as breakfast brew and actually at any time of the day. Very good tea indeed.
