Our Assam Mangalam FTGFOP1 loose leaf black tea is a superbly rich, golden-tipped single-estate Assam with deep amber liquor, bold malty depth and an exceptionally smooth, rounded finish. Natural sweetness from the golden tips is joined by warming notes of cocoa, date and gentle stone fruit, making this Special Selection a luxurious breakfast tea with the strength for milk and the refinement to enjoy black.

Assam Mangalam FTGFOP1 Loose Leaf Black Tea from a Renowned Estate

Mangalam Estate, in Assam’s Sivasagar district, is highly regarded for producing beautifully made orthodox black teas with an abundance of golden tips. Its premium Assam teas are known for combining the region’s characteristic full-bodied maltiness with a smoother, more polished drinking character.

This Special Selection captures that balance beautifully: rich and substantial in the cup, but never coarse or harsh. It is an Assam with genuine presence, natural sweetness and enough depth to make each pot feel especially rewarding.

Bold Malt, Cocoa Depth and Natural Sweetness

In the cup, this Assam Mangalam FTGFOP1 loose leaf black tea produces a clear, deep amber infusion with a full and inviting aroma. The flavour is richly malty, layered with warm cocoa depth, soft date-like sweetness and a gentle stone-fruit lift towards the finish.

The generous golden tips give the liquor a smoother, rounder texture than many robust Assams. The result is a tea with real strength and body, balanced by an elegant softness that makes it equally enjoyable as a powerful morning cup or a slower, more indulgent brew.

Premium FTGFOP1 Assam with Golden Tips

FTGFOP1 stands for Fine Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe Grade 1, a premium orthodox leaf grade prized for its finely made leaves and visible golden tips. In this Mangalam tea, those golden tips are an important part of its appeal, contributing to the attractive leaf appearance and the naturally sweet, rounded character of the infusion.

A Commanding Assam for Breakfast and Beyond

Assam Mangalam FTGFOP1 is an exceptional choice for the first cup of the morning. It has the strength and structure to take milk beautifully, while its natural sweetness, cocoa depth and smooth finish make it well worth savouring black.

It is one of our most popular Assams and a tea we regularly enjoy ourselves in the morning: substantial, warming and richly satisfying, yet noticeably more refined than an everyday breakfast blend.

How to Brew Assam Mangalam FTGFOP1

Use freshly boiled water at 100°C and add one heaped teaspoon of loose leaf tea per cup. Steep for 3 to 4 minutes for a full-flavoured, balanced infusion, or extend towards 5 minutes if you prefer a stronger cup to take with milk.

For drinking black, try a slightly shorter infusion of around 2½ to 3 minutes to preserve the tea’s smoother texture and finer cocoa and fruit notes.

Good quality

This is excellent for any tea lover. Good flavour, minimal 'dust', and a cut above some other teas.
