Our Assam Harmutty STGFOP1 loose leaf black tea is a premium single-estate Assam with deep coppery-amber liquor, abundant golden tips and a smooth, full-bodied malty character. Gently spiced and beautifully balanced, it offers the richness expected of a fine Assam while avoiding the harshness sometimes found in lesser grades — excellent with milk, and equally rewarding taken black.
Assam Harmutty STGFOP1 Loose Leaf Black Tea from a Historic Estate
Harmutty is one of Assam’s long-established tea estates, founded in 1870 and widely recognised for producing high-quality orthodox black teas. Specialist retailers consistently describe Harmutty STGFOP1 as a golden-tipped, full-bodied Assam with malty depth, smooth structure and a bright, richly coloured liquor.
This is a tea with pedigree, but also real drinkability: robust enough for breakfast, refined enough to enjoy more slowly through the afternoon.
Full-Bodied Malt, Gentle Spice and a Smooth Finish
In the cup, this Assam Harmutty STGFOP1 loose leaf black tea brews to a deep copper-amber infusion with excellent clarity. The flavour is rich and malty, with a light warming spice, a softly rounded texture and a clean finish that remains satisfying without becoming coarse.
The golden tips add visual beauty to the dry leaf and help give the brewed tea a more polished, balanced character.
Premium STGFOP1 Assam with Golden Tips
STGFOP1, or Super Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe grade 1, denotes a high-grade orthodox Assam with a generous proportion of fine tips. Competitor descriptions of Harmutty repeatedly highlight its dark, well-made leaf, abundant golden-brown tips and bright, expressive liquor, all of which support its position as a premium single-estate Assam.

A Serious Assam for Morning and Afternoon
Assam Harmutty STGFOP1 is an excellent choice for those who enjoy a substantial breakfast tea with more refinement than an everyday blend. It takes milk beautifully, softening into a rounded, deeply satisfying cup, yet it is also smooth enough to drink black when you want the malt and spice to show more clearly.
How to Brew Assam Harmutty STGFOP1
Use freshly boiled water at around 95°C to 100°C and add one heaped teaspoon per cup. Steep for 3 to 4 minutes.
A 3-minute brew gives a bright, lively cup, while 4 minutes develops fuller malt and greater depth. Specialist brewing guidance for Harmutty teas commonly recommends a 3 to 4-minute infusion.
Add milk after brewing if desired. If drinking it black, keep the steep towards the shorter end for the smoothest result.
