Assam Hathikuli GBOP Organic Black Tea from a Remarkable Estate
Hathikuli Estate is one of Assam’s best-known organic tea gardens, situated close to Kaziranga National Park in the Golaghat district. Specialist tea retailers consistently highlight the estate’s organic cultivation, its connection with the wildlife-rich landscape of the region and the strong, coppery, malty cup produced by this GBOP tea.
This is a tea with clear Assam character: rich, warming and substantial, yet smoother and more polished than an everyday broken-leaf breakfast blend.
Coppery, Malty and Gently Honeyed
In the cup, this Assam Hathikuli GBOP organic black tea brews to a vivid copper infusion with a strong, inviting aroma. The flavour is full-bodied and malty, with honeyed sweetness through the front of the cup, a smooth middle and a clean, lightly spiced finish. Comparable specialist descriptions also note its copper liquor, malty profile and subtle sweetness.
It has enough strength to satisfy those who enjoy a proper morning Assam, while retaining enough elegance to drink slowly and appreciate on its own.
Organic GBOP Leaf with Strength and Character
GBOP, or Golden Broken Orange Pekoe, is a broken-leaf grade that infuses quickly and gives a robust, well-coloured cup. In this Hathikuli selection, the grade helps create a tea that is brisk and full without becoming rough, with golden tips contributing visual appeal and a more rounded flavour.
This makes it an excellent choice for customers seeking an organic Assam with genuine depth, good provenance and dependable everyday drinkability.

A Confident Assam for Breakfast and Beyond
Assam Hathikuli GBOP is particularly well suited to breakfast, where its body and malt come fully into their own. It takes milk very well, softening the briskness and drawing out the honeyed warmth, but it is equally enjoyable black for those who want a clearer sense of the leaf.
How to Brew Assam Hathikuli GBOP
Use freshly boiled water at 95°C to 100°C and add one heaped teaspoon per cup. Steep for 3 to 4 minutes for a bright, balanced cup, or extend towards 5 minutes if you prefer a fuller, more robust brew.
This tea takes milk beautifully. If drinking it black, keep the steep closer to the shorter end of the range so the honeyed malt and light spice remain clear and smooth.

I have fallen in love with this Assam. The aroma of the leaves is fabulous from the bag and cup. It can be made really strong with a full teaspoon and boiling water, but I love making it with a little less tea, and water just before full boil. This seems to get nice flavor but not too much strength or astringency so can be enjoyed very much without milk and anytime of day that way. Beautiful cup!
