🍵 The Provenance — A celebrated Chinese jasmine green tea from Dammann Frères, Paris tea specialists since 1925, presented in 24 individually enveloped Cristal sachets

🍵 The Liquor — A pale, luminous gold in the cup, delicate and clear, with an immediately present jasmine fragrance that rises as the tea opens

🍵 The Flavour — Softly floral and gently sweet, with a full-bodied Chinese green tea at its heart and the white jasmine flower lending a smooth, lingering perfume

🍵 The Occasion — The traditional companion to Chinese cuisine, and equally at home as a considered afternoon cup or a calming end to the evening

Jasmine green tea is the most celebrated scented tea in China, and few houses have interpreted it with more elegance than Dammann Frères. Founded in Paris in 1925, the house has built its reputation on the precise sourcing and blending of fine teas, and this Thé Vert Au Jasmin is among the most enduring expressions in their collection — a carefully balanced composition in which a full-bodied Chinese green tea and the sweet, delicate perfume of the white jasmine flower are given equal standing.

The tradition of scenting tea with jasmine has roots that reach back to the Song Dynasty, over a thousand years ago, and was refined further during the Ming period when jasmine became closely associated with refinement and scholarship. The scenting process is one of the most labour-intensive in tea production. Fresh jasmine buds are gathered in the late afternoon, just before they open, and layered with the dried green tea leaves through the night. As the flowers bloom, they release their concentrated fragrance naturally into the leaf — a process that may be repeated several times for finer grades, requiring patience and considerable skill.

The result in this Dammann Frères expression is a tea of real composure. The green tea base brings structure and a fresh, gently grassy depth, while the jasmine lifts and perfumes without ever overwhelming. The cup is pale gold, luminous, and immediately fragrant, with a softly sweet character that needs neither milk nor sugar. It pairs beautifully with Chinese food — as tradition suggests — though it is equally well suited to a quiet afternoon or as a gentle, calming cup in the evening.

Each of the 24 sachets is individually enveloped to protect the fragrance, and presented in Dammann Frères' signature Cristal format — a pyramid sachet crafted from PLA, a plant-derived material that allows the tea to move and infuse properly within the sachet.

Since 2008, High Teas London has been one of the country's leading independent tea specialists, bringing together over 350 teas and infusions from the world's finest producers into one of the largest collections available anywhere in the UK. Teas of this calibre — from houses with a genuine heritage and a commitment to quality — are exactly what we have always sought out.

Ingredients: Green tea, jasmine flowers.

Brewing Note: Use water that has cooled slightly after boiling — around 80°C is ideal, as fully boiling water can introduce a faint bitterness into green tea and dull the jasmine fragrance. Place one sachet in your cup and steep for 2 to 3 minutes. A shorter infusion of 2 minutes will give a lighter, more delicate result; 3 minutes brings out more of the green tea's body. Remove the sachet promptly and take a moment before your first sip — the fragrance as the cup settles is a pleasure in itself. The sachet can be used for a second, lighter infusion if preferred.

Use freshly boiled water (95–100°C) and steep 1 teaspoon of tea for 3–5 minutes, depending on your preferred strength. It pairs well with milk due to its malty character.
