🍵 The Tea — Classic Ceylon black tea CO2 decaffeinated without chemicals, delivering full-bodied richness and genuine character in every pyramid bag
🍵 The Colour — A deep, warming amber infusion with real body and brightness, equally inviting taken straight or with a generous splash of milk
🍵 The Character — Smooth and malty with a clean, rounded finish; none of the flatness or chemical aftertaste that diminishes so many decaf black teas
🍵 The Occasion — Suited to morning, afternoon, or evening alike; the spacious pyramid bag gives the leaves room to fully expand, delivering a loose leaf quality cup every time
Good decaf tea is rarer than it should be. Too often the decaffeination process strips out not just the caffeine but the flavour along with it, leaving a pale, lifeless cup that bears little resemblance to a properly brewed black tea. This CO2 decaffeinated English breakfast tea is a different matter — a full-bodied, smooth, and genuinely satisfying cup built on quality Ceylon black tea, decaffeinated by a process that leaves the flavour exactly where it belongs.
The CO2 method works without chemical solvents. Naturally occurring carbon dioxide is pressurised until it becomes a selective solvent, passing through the tea leaves and bonding with the caffeine molecules to draw them out, while leaving the aromatic compounds, polyphenols, and essential character of the leaf essentially undisturbed. It is a technically demanding and more costly process than older solvent-based methods — and the results show clearly in the cup.
The tea itself is a classic English breakfast style grounded in Ceylon black tea from Sri Lanka. Ceylon teas are long valued for their brightness, clean mouthfeel, and reliable body, and this one carries all of those qualities. The liquor brews a rich, warm amber with a smooth malty depth that takes milk well and holds together even at a longer steep. It is, in short, a decaf tea that actually tastes like tea.
Presented in biodegradable pyramid bags, the leaves have genuine room to move during brewing. The result is noticeably more aromatic and rounded than a conventional flat tea bag — closer in character to a properly brewed loose leaf cup. Whether it is the first brew of the morning or a quiet cup before bed, it delivers.
High Teas London was founded in 2008 with a straightforward ambition: to bring genuinely exceptional tea to as many cups as possible. With one of the largest collections in the country — over 350 teas and infusions sourced from the world's finest origins — we take the same care with our decaf range as with every other tea we carry. This decaf English breakfast is one we are proud to include: honest, well-made, and exactly what it promises to be.
Ingredients: CO2 decaffeinated Ceylon black tea.
Brewing Note: Decaf English breakfast tea brews best with water that has just reached a full rolling boil. Place one pyramid bag in a generously sized mug — the bag needs room to work — and pour freshly boiled water directly over it. Steep for three to four minutes depending on your preference for strength. If you want a bolder cup, allow up to five minutes rather than squeezing the bag, which can introduce an unwanted bitter edge. Milk can be added after brewing; the tea has the body to carry it well. It is equally good drunk black if you prefer a cleaner, lighter cup.
