Our Dian Hong loose leaf black tea Bamboo Temple Yunnan is a rich, full-bodied Chinese black tea with coppery-amber liquor, malty depth and a beautifully smooth finish. Broad crinkled leaves with golden tips brew into a generous cup with gentle jammy sweetness, a whisper of toast and enough strength to take milk and sugar beautifully — a rewarding Yunnan black tea for mornings or slow afternoon drinking.
Dian Hong Loose Leaf Black Tea from Yunnan
Bamboo Temple Yunnan is a characterful Chinese black tea from one of the world’s most historic tea-growing regions. Yunnan is renowned for producing bold, rounded black teas in the Dian Hong style, prized for their rich body, golden tips and naturally smooth finish.
This blend offers that classic profile in a particularly satisfying form: strong enough to appeal to lovers of breakfast tea, yet softened by the mellow sweetness and buttery texture that make Yunnan black teas so distinctive.
Malty, Smooth and Gently Jammy
In the cup, this Dian Hong loose leaf black tea pours a bright coppery amber with warm ochre highlights. The flavour is full and generous, opening with malt and toasted warmth before settling into softer notes of jam, cocoa-like depth and natural sweetness.
There is briskness here, but it is beautifully rounded — more polished than sharp, with a finish that lingers pleasantly after each sip.
A Full-Bodied Chinese Black Tea with Golden Tips
The broad, crinkled leaves are fully oxidised and scattered with golden tips, a visual sign of the richness within. As they infuse, they release a cup with real weight and substance, making Bamboo Temple Yunnan a more robust style of Chinese black tea than many lighter, more delicate examples.
It is an excellent choice for those who enjoy Assam-like body but want the smoother, more rounded character of Yunnan leaf.

Excellent in the Morning or Afternoon
Bamboo Temple Yunnan has enough strength and structure for the first cup of the day, especially if you enjoy a fuller black tea with milk. At the same time, its smoothness and natural sweetness make it equally enjoyable as a slower afternoon brew served plain.
Milk brings the malt forward and rounds the cup further, while drinking it black reveals more of the buttery, jammy Yunnan character.
How to Brew Bamboo Temple Yunnan
Use freshly boiled water at 100°C and add one heaped teaspoon per cup. Steep for 3 to 5 minutes.
A 3-minute infusion gives a brighter, lighter cup. A 5-minute brew develops fuller body, deeper malt and the richer sweetness this tea is known for.
Serve black to appreciate its smooth Yunnan character, or add milk and sugar if you prefer a more comforting, breakfast-style cup.

I can now report that more than 10 years after discovering this delicious tea, it still remains a favourite up high on Dartmoor. I can also report that its restorative powers are now legendary as it has clearly enabled me to recover from a Total Knee Replacement in record time.
So there we have it. Delicious, nutritious and it appears to have magical restorative powers 🙂
Still drinking this wonderful tea.
I find the flavour of this tea difficult to describe. I have added it now to my regular Dubliners Breakfast. This is an equally excellent but much more subtle tea. Slightly smokey ...only very slightly but with rich golden overtones. A favourite either with milk or black ...at tea time. Perfect!
