Our Formosa Lapsang loose leaf tea Crocodile is a bold, heavily smoked black tea from Taiwan with deep amber liquor, pronounced pinewood aroma and a surprisingly smooth, mellow finish. Stronger and smokier than a classic Chinese Lapsang style, it delivers layers of resinous woodsmoke, full black tea body and a lingering warmth that makes it a memorable cup for slow mornings or quiet evenings.
Formosa Lapsang Loose Leaf Tea with Bold Pinewood Smoke
Formosa Lapsang Crocodile is a richly smoky loose leaf black tea made for those who enjoy real depth and intensity in the cup. Produced from large-grade Taiwanese black tea leaves and smoked over pinewood fires, it offers a fuller, more assertive expression of the Lapsang tradition.
The smoke is immediate and aromatic, but the cup itself remains rounded and rewarding rather than harsh — a powerful tea with genuine balance beneath its strength.
Deeply Smoky, Full-Bodied and Surprisingly Smooth
In the cup, this Formosa Lapsang loose leaf tea brews to a dark, warming amber liquor with a fragrance of pine resin and woodsmoke that fills the room.
The flavour is bold and unmistakable: intense smoke at the front, followed by a fuller black tea body and a mellow, satisfying aftertaste. It is stronger than many Chinese smoked teas, but carefully enough made to keep the finish smooth and composed.
A Distinctive Taiwanese Smoked Black Tea
The Crocodile style uses coarse, large black tea leaves that take on smoke deeply during production. This gives the finished tea its robust personality and strong aromatic presence.
For drinkers who already enjoy Lapsang Souchong but want something darker, fuller and more unapologetically smoky, Formosa Lapsang Crocodile is an excellent choice.

A Tea for Slow Drinking and Cooler Evenings
This is a tea with presence. It suits quiet mornings, cold afternoons and evenings when a more intense, grounding brew feels right.
Served black, the smoke shows at its fullest. A small splash of milk softens the edges and gives the cup a warmer, more rounded character without losing its distinctive identity.
How to Brew Formosa Lapsang Crocodile
Use freshly boiled water at 100°C and add one heaped teaspoon per cup. Steep for 3 to 5 minutes.
A 3-minute infusion gives a bold, cleaner smoke with a brighter finish. A 5-minute brew produces a deeper, fuller cup with more rounded weight and intensity.
This tea can also be infused a second time, yielding a lighter, slightly sweeter smoky cup.

A good flavoured tea with a bit of depth and nicely accompanied by the smokey flavour which is not overpowering. Will be buying this again
Perfectly drinkable, mild Lapsang, but if you want to make a statement in the room that says you're drinking Lapsang, then this isn't for you.
Poor. I shall not be troubling again
An aroma of Arbroath Smokies but I love Arbroath Smokies!
Formosa Lapsang “Crocodile” is the best and smokiest Lapsang I have ever tasted imparting a warm, satisfying glow to every taste bud.
