Our Golden Monkey loose leaf black tea Jin Hou Cha is a beautifully smooth Chinese black tea made from hand-plucked buds and first leaves, rich with distinctive golden tips. Naturally sweet, refined and almost entirely free from astringency, it brews to a warm amber cup with soft honeyed notes, a hint of peach and a whisper of cocoa — a tea to savour slowly, with nothing added.
Golden Monkey Loose Leaf Black Tea from Yunnan
Golden Monkey, or Jin Hou Cha, is one of China’s most admired black teas, prized for its striking golden-tipped leaf and exceptionally smooth cup. This Yunnan selection is crafted from tender spring buds and first leaves grown in mountain gardens, producing a tea with real elegance, depth and natural sweetness.
It is a more refined style of black tea than a brisk breakfast blend, offering a softer, more aromatic experience from the very first sip.
Honeyed, Peachy and Remarkably Smooth
In the cup, this Golden Monkey loose leaf black tea pours a warm amber liquor with a silky, rounded body. The flavour is gently honeyed, with a soft peach note, subtle cocoa warmth and a clean finish that lingers without bitterness.
The natural sweetness of the leaf is one of its great pleasures. There is no need for milk, sugar or lemon — the tea is beautifully complete on its own.
Golden-Tipped Leaf with Exceptional Character
The gold running through the dry leaf comes from the fine downy buds used in production, a clear visual sign of careful plucking and quality manufacture. Dark twisted leaves threaded with copper-gold tips make this tea as attractive to look at as it is rewarding to drink.
The finished cup has warmth and depth, but never heaviness. It is smooth, poised and quietly complex.

A Tea to Sit With, Not to Rush
Golden Monkey is ideal for unhurried mornings or a thoughtful afternoon cup when you want something elegant and rewarding. It has enough character to hold your attention, yet is gentle enough to drink with ease.
It also gives a worthwhile second infusion, revealing a lighter and slightly softer side of the leaf.
How to Brew Golden Monkey Jin Hou Cha
Use water at around 90°C to 95°C and add one heaped teaspoon per cup. Steep for 3 to 4 minutes.
A 3-minute brew gives a softer, more delicate cup. A 4-minute infusion develops fuller body and slightly deeper cocoa warmth. The tea can be taken to 5 minutes if you prefer more strength, though it remains notably smooth.
A second infusion is well worth trying with a slightly longer steep.
