Jasmine green tea is one of the world's most celebrated scented teas, with a history reaching back over a thousand years to the imperial courts of China — and these biodegradable jasmine green tea pyramid bags bring that same centuries-old tradition into your everyday routine without any compromise on quality.

The story begins in Fujian province, long regarded as the birthplace of jasmine tea and still the benchmark for its finest examples. The jasmine plant first arrived in China via the Silk Road during the Han dynasty, and by the Ming dynasty the art of tea scenting — known as xun zhi — had been refined into the careful, labour-intensive process still used in the best teas today. Green tea leaves are harvested in early spring and held until summer, when jasmine flowers are hand-picked in the cool of the morning while the petals are still tightly closed. As night falls and the blossoms open, releasing their fragrance, the scenting begins: tea and flowers are layered together and left for four or more hours while the leaves slowly absorb the jasmine's natural sweetness and aroma. For the finest grades, this process is repeated several times.

The result is a cup that is clean, bright, and gently sweet — floral without being heavy, refreshing without being thin. The green tea base brings a light, slightly grassy quality and a natural smoothness, while the jasmine blossoms lift each sip with a soft, perfumed character that lingers pleasantly on the finish. It is a tea that rewards a moment of quiet.

Presented in biodegradable pyramid bags, each one is designed to give the leaf and blossoms ample space to expand fully during brewing — delivering an infusion noticeably closer to loose leaf quality than a standard flat bag allows.

Since 2008, High Teas London has been one of the country's leading independent tea specialists. With over 350 teas and infusions — one of the largest collections in the country — every product in the range is chosen for genuine quality, and this jasmine green tea is no exception.

Ingredients: Green tea, jasmine flowers.

Brewing Note: Temperature matters more with jasmine green tea than with almost any other. Use water that has just come off the boil and rested for a minute or two — around 80°C is ideal, as boiling water can turn the green tea bitter and strip out the delicate jasmine fragrance rather than preserve it. Place one pyramid bag per cup and steep for two to three minutes, then remove promptly. Two minutes gives a lighter, more floral cup; three minutes draws out a little more body and depth. This tea also cold brews beautifully — simply drop a bag into cold water and leave it in the fridge for four to six hours for a clean, lightly fragrant iced tea with no bitterness at all.
