🍵 The Tea — A smooth, full-bodied black tea scented with real jasmine blossoms and finished with whole flowers, for a naturally fragrant cup with genuine depth and warmth

🍵 The Colour — Pours a clear, warm amber — richly fragrant and quietly luminous, a cup that announces itself before the first sip

🍵 The Perfume — The jasmine note is open and generous, softening the black tea's natural warmth without overpowering it, with a lightly sweet, floral finish that lingers on the palate

🍵 The Occasion — Wonderful after a meal or as a midday pause; best enjoyed without milk to let the jasmine character come through freely

Jasmine black tea is one of the most traditionally celebrated scented teas in China — and one of the most widely loved across the world. The art of scenting tea with fresh jasmine blossoms was first developed in Fujian Province during the Song Dynasty, when tea masters discovered that layering freshly picked jasmine flowers with prepared tea leaves overnight allowed the dry leaves to absorb the flowers' natural perfume. By the time of the Qing Dynasty, when Chinese tea began flowing westward in earnest, jasmine tea had become the country's most admired and widely exported scented tea — a drink served at the imperial court and offered as a gesture of honour to distinguished guests.

This version takes a traditional, full-bodied black tea as its base, giving it considerably more depth and character than the more commonly seen jasmine green tea varieties. Where jasmine green is light and grassy, this is richer and rounder, with the black tea providing a warm, substantial foundation that carries the jasmine beautifully. The real jasmine flowers present in each pyramid bag are a mark of quality — a sign that this is a properly made, naturally fragrant tea rather than one enhanced with artificial flavouring or added extracts.

The pyramid bag format allows the black tea leaves and jasmine flowers to move freely in the water, producing a full and even infusion in much the same way that loose leaf tea does. Each bag is fully biodegradable. The result in the cup is a deep, clear amber brew — generously fragrant, naturally smooth, and gently sweet in a way that makes it especially welcome after a meal, where jasmine's long-held reputation as a digestive and palate-cleanser truly comes into its own. Serve without milk, which would mask the delicate floral character; this is a tea that stands beautifully on its own.

Finding teas of this quality is what High Teas London has been doing since 2008. With over 350 teas and infusions — one of the largest collections in the country — we have always believed that a genuinely excellent tea experience should be accessible in every format, whether loose leaf or pyramid bag.

Ingredients: Black tea, jasmine flowers.

Brewing Note: Jasmine black tea is more forgiving than its green tea counterpart when it comes to water temperature. Use freshly drawn water brought to just below a full boil — around 95°C — and steep for 3 to 5 minutes depending on how strong you prefer your cup. Any longer and the black tea can begin to develop a slight astringency, though the jasmine tends to soften this naturally. There is no need to agitate or squeeze the pyramid bag; the format does the work for you. This tea is at its best without milk, which would subdue the floral character; enjoy it plain, or with a small amount of honey if you prefer a hint of sweetness. It makes a particularly good cup after a meal.

Use freshly boiled water (95–100°C) and steep 1 teaspoon of tea for 3–5 minutes, depending on your preferred strength. It pairs well with milk due to its malty character.
