Our Kenilworth OP1 Ceylon black tea is a smooth, full-bodied loose leaf black tea from one of Sri Lanka’s most respected estates. Bright amber in the cup, clean and satisfying in character, it offers dependable strength, a gently rounded finish and the versatility to enjoy either black or with a splash of milk.

Kenilworth OP1 Ceylon Black Tea from Kandy

Kenilworth Estate is one of the better-known names in Ceylon tea, producing orthodox whole-leaf black teas valued for their full-bodied, bright and reliable cup. Specialist retailers commonly describe Kenilworth OP teas as smooth, amber-coloured and satisfying, making them particularly appealing for everyday loose leaf drinking.

This OP1 selection is a composed and versatile black tea: strong enough for the morning, polished enough for the afternoon and easy to enjoy however you take your cup.

Bright Amber Liquor with Smooth, Dependable Strength

In the cup, this Kenilworth OP1 Ceylon black tea brews to a warm amber infusion with excellent clarity. The flavour is full-bodied and smooth, with a clean, steady strength and a gentle finish that avoids harshness or excessive astringency.

It is the sort of tea that earns its place as an everyday staple — straightforward in the best sense, but with enough estate quality to feel a clear step above a standard blend.

Whole-Leaf OP1 Tea from a Respected Ceylon Estate

OP1, or Orange Pekoe 1, refers to a neat, wiry whole-leaf grade that produces a more composed infusion than smaller broken teas. Comparable Kenilworth teas are regularly noted for their pine needle-like leaf, amber liquor and balanced full-bodied flavour, all of which align well with this product’s style.

A Reliable Ceylon for Morning or Afternoon

Kenilworth OP1 is an excellent everyday black tea for those who appreciate smoothness and balance. It has enough depth to take milk comfortably, yet remains rewarding drunk plain, where the clarity of the liquor and clean finish are easier to appreciate.

How to Brew Kenilworth OP1 Ceylon Black Tea

Use freshly boiled water at 100°C and add one heaped teaspoon per cup. Steep for 3 to 4 minutes for a bright, balanced cup, or allow 4 to 5 minutes if you prefer more strength and body.

This tea takes milk well and is forgiving enough for regular everyday brewing. Add milk after steeping so you can judge the strength of the infusion first.

Our 'house' afternoon tea

We love this tea, it's lighter that the big Assam and Kenyan teas we have for breakfast: it is a perfect afternoon tea. Good colour but not too deep, and a good flavour but not too strong .. refreshing.

Use freshly boiled water (95–100°C) and steep 1 teaspoon of tea for 3–5 minutes, depending on your preferred strength. It pairs well with milk due to its malty character.
