🍵 The Flower — Whole dried hibiscus calyces from Hibiscus sabdariffa, harvested by hand and carefully dried to preserve their vivid crimson colour and bold natural flavour

🍵 The Cup — A deep, jewel-bright ruby infusion with a clean, refreshing tartness and a lively citrus edge — striking in the glass and equally beautiful chilled over ice

🍵 The Aroma — Bright and fruity with a naturally sharp, cranberry-like character; bold enough to stand alone, yet smooth and clean on the finish

🍵 The Occasion — Wonderful hot as a warming, caffeine free afternoon drink, or cold-brewed and served over ice as a vivid and thirst-quenching summer infusion

Khartoum Hibiscus Whole Blossoms is a pure, naturally caffeine free herbal infusion made from whole dried hibiscus calyces — the fleshy outer casing of the flower bud that gives this brew its extraordinary depth of colour and its bold, refreshing flavour. In the cup, it delivers a deep ruby red liquor with a brisk, citrus-bright tartness that is immediately satisfying and wonderfully clean on the finish. There are no added flavourings, no blending agents — just whole hibiscus blossoms, doing precisely what they have done for centuries.

Hibiscus sabdariffa has been cultivated and prized across North and East Africa for generations. In Sudan and Egypt, where it is known as karkadé, the infusion is woven deeply into everyday life and celebration — served hot or chilled at weddings, offered to guests as a mark of hospitality, and sipped in tea houses from Khartoum to Cairo. This is a drink with genuine cultural roots, and the name of this blend acknowledges exactly that. Sudan remains one of the world's most significant producers of hibiscus calyces, particularly in the rain-fed fields of Kordofan and Darfur, where the deep crimson colour of the dried calyx is itself a mark of quality.

What makes whole blossom hibiscus distinct from milled or broken hibiscus is the integrity of the calyx. Kept whole, it releases its colour and flavour gradually and fully, producing a richer, more rounded infusion than crushed hibiscus can offer. The result is a cup that is vivid and lively but never harsh — tart in the way that a well-made fruit infusion should be, with a natural sweetness underneath that rounds out the sharpness beautifully. It works equally well hot or chilled, and makes a spectacular cold brew given a little extra time to steep.

Hibiscus is naturally rich in anthocyanins — the same compounds that give the infusion its striking colour — and many people enjoy it as part of a mindful, caffeine free daily routine. Being entirely free of tea leaves, it contains no caffeine at all, making it an excellent choice at any time of day, including in the evening.

Since 2008, High Teas London has been one of the country's leading independent tea specialists, offering over 350 teas and infusions — one of the largest collections anywhere in the UK. Alongside our black, green, and oolong teas, we source herbal infusions and tisanes of genuine quality and character, and Khartoum Hibiscus Whole Blossoms is a fine example of what a single-ingredient herbal infusion can be when the source material is excellent.

Ingredients: Whole dried hibiscus calyces (Hibiscus sabdariffa).

Brewing Note: Hibiscus is wonderfully forgiving to brew. Use freshly boiled water at 100°C and allow the whole blossoms to steep for 8 to 10 minutes for a full-flavoured, deeply coloured cup. For a lighter result, reduce the steep time to 5 or 6 minutes. Hibiscus brews beautifully chilled — simply steep as normal, allow to cool, and serve over ice with a slice of orange or a few fresh mint leaves if you like. For cold brew, place the blossoms in cold water and leave in the fridge overnight for a smooth, jewel-bright infusion with a softer tartness than the hot-brewed version.

Excellent tea.

Reputed to have many medicinal properties. Such as cleaning out the anxiolic fluid, and reducing anxiety and stress, even helping a diet. Whatever, bunk or not, its a good floral tasting drink, and that makes it more easy to covince onself its all true. 🙂

Nothing added these whole blossoms are perfect. This tea is beautiful and tastes floral without any added sweetness. Enjoy ++

Use freshly boiled water (95–100°C) and steep 1 teaspoon of tea for 3–5 minutes, depending on your preferred strength. It pairs well with milk due to its malty character.
