Lavender Earl Grey is a floral, aromatic variation on one of Britain's most beloved tea blends — and one with surprisingly deep roots. Built on a foundation of high-grown Ceylon black tea with natural bergamot and deep blue Provence lavender, this is an Earl Grey that brings something genuinely distinctive to the cup. The practice of scenting Earl Grey with lavender is said to trace back to the European tea salons of the 17th century, when floral additions to scented teas were widely fashionable, and it is easy to understand why this particular combination endured.

The black tea base is a high-grown Ceylon, selected for its bright, clean character and the quality of its infusion. Ceylon teas grown at altitude are prized for their clarity and their natural ability to carry delicate flavourings without losing their own personality. The bergamot scenting gives this Earl Grey its characteristic citrus brightness, while the Provence lavender — a variety prized for its deeper colour and more pronounced floral fragrance than common cultivars — adds a soft, distinctly aromatic note that settles beautifully against the tea.

In the cup, the infusion is bright and coppery, with an aroma that is immediately welcoming. The bergamot lifts and brightens while the lavender rounds and softens, creating a blend that is refined and well-balanced — neither too floral nor too sharp. It is the kind of tea that rewards a slower, more considered moment in the day.

Presented in biodegradable pyramid bags, the tea has room to move freely during brewing, allowing the blend to develop with the depth and character of a loose leaf infusion — with none of the compromise that a flat tea bag brings.

Brewing Note: Brew with freshly boiled water at around 95 to 100°C and steep for 3 to 4 minutes. Lavender Earl Grey is particularly good without milk — removing the bag promptly allows the citrus and floral notes to come through cleanly, and a thin slice of lemon adds a pleasant extra brightness if you like it. If you prefer a stronger, more aromatic cup, extending the steep to 5 minutes works well, though beyond this the Ceylon base may begin to show a little bitterness. This blend also makes a very good iced tea: brew a little stronger than usual, allow to cool, and pour over ice for something elegant and refreshing.
