Our Oolong loose leaf tea SE Chung is a beautifully gentle Chinese oolong from Anxi County in Fujian Province, prized for its soft floral aroma, smooth golden-green liquor and delicate nutty finish. Lightly oxidised and quietly refined, it is an excellent choice for tea drinkers who want something more layered than green tea, yet softer and less intense than a darker oolong.
Oolong Loose Leaf Tea from Anxi County, Fujian
SE Chung is one of China’s more understated oolong styles. Its name is often translated as “colourful variety”, referring to the wider family of Anxi oolongs beyond the better-known Tie Guan Yin.
Where some oolongs are bold and roasted, SE Chung is lighter, fresher and more subtle. It offers a calm, elegant cup that rewards slower drinking.
Lightly Oxidised for a Softer, More Delicate Cup
The broad, well-formed leaves are gently withered, lightly rolled and oxidised only around the edges before firing. This careful process preserves the tea’s greener character while developing the softness and complexity associated with oolong.
The result is a tea that sits beautifully between green tea and more heavily oxidised oolongs: fresh, smooth and quietly aromatic.
Floral, Smooth and Gently Nutty
In the cup, SE Chung brews to a pale golden-green liquor with excellent clarity. The aroma is soft and inviting, with meadow-like floral notes and a warm hint of nuttiness.
The flavour is mild and naturally sweet, with a lightly herbaceous freshness and a delicate nutty finish. It is refined without being demanding, making it an easy tea to enjoy often.

How to Brew SE Chung Oolong Loose Leaf Tea
Use water at around 85°C to 90°C. If using a standard kettle, allow freshly boiled water to cool for a minute or two before pouring.
Add one heaped teaspoon per cup and steep for 3 to 4 minutes. Choose three minutes for a lighter, more floral infusion, or four minutes for a slightly fuller cup with more nutty depth.
The leaves will usually give two or three good infusions, each becoming progressively lighter and more floral. Serve without milk.
