Our Organic Darjeeling tea from Steinthal Estate is a refined single-estate loose leaf black tea for those who appreciate delicacy, provenance and real depth of character. Graded SFTGFOP1 and grown from ancient China tea bushes in one of Darjeeling’s oldest gardens, it gives a bright pale amber cup with elegant floral notes, a whisper of muscatel and a beautifully clean finish.
Organic Darjeeling Loose Leaf Tea from Steinthal Estate
Steinthal Estate is one of the most historic names in Darjeeling tea. Established in 1852 in the Kurseong area of the Himalayan foothills, it has built a long-standing reputation for teas of grace, fragrance and exceptional clarity.
What makes Steinthal especially distinctive is its exclusive use of ancient China, or Sinensis, tea bushes. These slower-growing plants were among the original varieties brought to Darjeeling and are prized for producing lighter, more aromatic teas with fine complexity.
A Fine SFTGFOP1 Single Estate Darjeeling
This tea is graded SFTGFOP1, meaning Special Finest Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe First Grade — a high leaf grade reserved for carefully selected, tippy orthodox teas.
The leaf is elegant and lightly twisted, with golden tips that signal careful plucking and sorting. As an organic Darjeeling tea, it is produced without synthetic inputs, allowing the natural refinement of the estate and the character of the leaf to come through clearly in the cup.
Delicate, Floral and Lightly Muscatel
Steinthal SFTGFOP1 brews to a bright, pale amber liquor with excellent clarity. The flavour is gentle yet expressive, opening with refined floral notes before developing a subtle muscatel sweetness and a smooth, lingering finish.
This is not a heavy breakfast tea. It is a tea to savour slowly, especially if you enjoy high-grown black teas with elegance, perfume and fine structure rather than brute strength.
Best Enjoyed Without Milk
Milk would soften the very qualities that make this tea special, so Steinthal is best enjoyed on its own. Served black, its floral aromatics, pale liquor and quiet muscatel depth remain beautifully clear.
It is an excellent choice for a contemplative mid-morning cup, an unhurried afternoon pause or any moment when a more distinguished Darjeeling feels called for.
How to Brew Steinthal Organic Darjeeling Tea
Use water cooled slightly after boiling, ideally around 90°C to 95°C. Add one heaped teaspoon per cup and steep for 3 to 4 minutes for a bright, elegant infusion.
For a little more body, extend the brew to around 5 minutes. Drink without milk to appreciate the tea’s full aromatic character. The leaves may also be infused a second time for a lighter but still rewarding cup.
