Our Organic Darjeeling loose leaf tea from Sungma Estate is a bold, characterful black tea for those who enjoy Darjeeling with greater strength and depth. Made in the distinctive BPS, or Broken Pekoe Souchong, grade, it brews to a rich reddish-gold cup with spicy warmth, muscatel complexity and enough body to enjoy either black or with a splash of milk.
Organic Darjeeling Loose Leaf Tea from Sungma Estate
Sungma Estate lies in Darjeeling’s Rung Bong Valley, where its gardens rise from around 1,420 to 2,360 metres above sea level. This fully certified organic estate is known for producing teas with clarity, aromatic depth and a character shaped by cool mountain air, mist and Himalayan soils.
While many Darjeeling teas are prized for delicacy, Sungma BPS offers something more assertive. It is a tea with real presence: fuller in the cup, warmer in flavour and especially appealing to drinkers who want the distinctive muscatel quality of Darjeeling carried by a stronger black tea structure.
A Stronger BPS Darjeeling with Muscatel Depth
The BPS grade, or Broken Pekoe Souchong, uses tightly curled, broken leaves that infuse more quickly and produce a more robust brew than many whole-leaf Darjeelings. The dry leaf shows a natural mixture of darker and greener tones, reflecting the rolling style used in processing.
In the cup, the tea is bold and aromatic, with warming spice, a distinctive muscatel undertone and a satisfying depth that lingers. It stands apart from lighter first flush Darjeelings and offers a more powerful, full-flavoured expression of the region.
Organic Sungma Estate Tea with Real Character
Sungma is one of Darjeeling’s historic gardens, with roots stretching back to the nineteenth century. Its name is linked to the Tibetan phrase Sanga Maru, often translated as a place where mushrooms grow in abundance.
Today, its organic cultivation and high-altitude setting help produce teas of excellent individuality. This Broken Pekoe Souchong is a fine example: authentic, expressive and made for those who appreciate Darjeeling not only for finesse, but also for strength.
Enjoy Black or with a Touch of Milk
Sungma BPS is versatile in the cup. Served black, its reddish-gold liquor, spicy profile and muscatel notes come through most clearly. With a small splash of milk, the sharper edges soften while the tea retains its body and aromatic character.
That makes it an excellent choice for Darjeeling drinkers seeking a more substantial everyday cup, without losing the provenance and complexity of a single-estate organic tea.
How to Brew Sungma Organic Darjeeling Loose Leaf Tea
Use freshly boiled water at 100°C and approximately one teaspoon per cup. Steep for 3 to 4 minutes, depending on how strong you prefer the infusion.
A shorter brew gives a brighter, more aromatic cup, while four minutes brings out the fuller body and spice of the BPS grade. The broken leaf extracts quickly, so avoid over-steeping beyond five minutes if you want to keep the finish smooth and balanced.
