Our Organic Rwandan loose leaf black tea from the Rukeri garden is a bold, beautifully rounded Pekoe tea with deep copper colour, malty warmth and an intriguing citrus-spiced finish. Grown at high altitude on volcanic soils, it offers a distinctive African black tea character with hints of sweet spice and cocoa — excellent enjoyed black, yet full enough to take milk beautifully.
Organic Rwandan Loose Leaf Black Tea from Rukeri
Rukeri Pekoe is a fine organic black tea from Rwanda’s Kinihira district, an origin that deserves far greater recognition among lovers of quality loose leaf tea. Grown at around 1,600 metres, the garden benefits from high elevation, rich volcanic soil and conditions that help create a cup with both brightness and body.
This is an orthodox Pekoe black tea, carefully made to preserve the long, wiry leaf and allow its natural character to show clearly in the cup.
Bold, Malty and Distinctively Spiced
In the cup, Organic Pekoe Rukeri brews to a vivid copper-red liquor with excellent clarity and a satisfyingly full presence. The first impression is warm and malty, followed by a lively citrus spiciness that gives the tea freshness and lift.
Beneath that sits a softer depth of sweet spice and gentle cocoa-like richness. The result is a black tea that feels strong and comforting, but never flat or overly tannic.
A Characterful Organic African Black Tea
Rukeri comes from one of Rwanda’s notable organic tea-growing areas, where high-altitude cultivation and careful orthodox manufacture produce a style quite different from more common African CTC breakfast teas.
It has enough familiarity to appeal to drinkers of high-grown Ceylon or brisk morning black teas, yet a personality that is entirely its own — aromatic, well structured and quietly complex.

Excellent Black, Equally Good with Milk
This Rwandan black tea is well worth trying first without milk, where its citrus brightness, warm spice and aromatic finish are most clearly expressed.
Add a small splash of milk and it becomes rounder, richer and more traditional in style, making it a versatile choice for mornings, afternoons or any time you want a black tea with genuine individuality.
How to Brew Organic Rukeri Pekoe Black Tea
Use freshly boiled water at 95°C to 100°C and add around 2 to 3g of leaf per cup. Steep for 3 to 4 minutes.
A shorter infusion brings out more citrus brightness and spice. A slightly longer steep deepens the malty body and warming finish. Enjoy black for the clearest flavour, or add milk for a fuller, softer cup.
