Our Pu-erh loose leaf tea from Yunnan is a deep, earthy Chinese dark tea with a rich reddish-brown liquor, smooth body and mature, aged character. Made from large-leafed Yunnan Dayeh tea and traditionally post-fermented, it offers mellow woody depth, a clean finish and the kind of grounding, contemplative cup that rewards slower drinking — especially after a meal or in the evening.

Pu-erh Loose Leaf Tea from Yunnan

Pu-erh is one of the most distinctive tea styles in the world: dark, smooth, earthy and unlike any ordinary black or green tea. This loose leaf Yunnan Pu-erh is made from broad-leaf Dayeh tea and broken from pressed cakes into an easy-to-brew form, preserving the aged character while making daily preparation simple.

The result is a tea with real presence — full in the cup, mellow on the palate and deeply satisfying from the first infusion onward.

Earthy, Smooth and Distinctively Aged

In the cup, this Pu-erh loose leaf tea brews to a dark reddish-brown liquor with a rich, rounded body. The flavour is boldly earthy, softened by woody warmth and a clean, smooth finish that becomes increasingly appealing with each sip.

It is strong without being harsh, deep without feeling heavy and especially rewarding for tea drinkers who enjoy more mature, savoury styles.

Traditional Yunnan Dark Tea with Real Depth

Pu-erh tea has been produced in Yunnan for centuries and is known for its traditional post-fermentation process, which gives the leaves their darker colour and mature flavour profile.

This version uses large-leafed Yunnan Dayeh material, prized for producing teas with body, structure and a fuller aged character. Broken from pressed cakes into loose form, it offers the same rich style in a more convenient everyday format.

A Rewarding Tea for Slower Drinking

Yunnan Pu-erh is a natural choice when you want something deeper and more contemplative than a standard everyday brew. Its mature, earthy flavour makes it particularly satisfying after food, or whenever a rich, grounding cup feels right.

It is best enjoyed without milk or sugar, allowing the full character of the fermented leaf to come through clearly.

How to Brew Yunnan Pu-erh Loose Leaf Tea

Pu-erh benefits from a brief rinse before the first infusion. Place the leaves in your pot or gaiwan, pour over boiling water, swirl gently for a few seconds, then discard.

For the main brew, use freshly boiled water at 100°C and steep for 3 to 5 minutes, adjusting to taste. A shorter brew gives a cleaner, lighter cup; a longer infusion develops greater earthiness and depth.

The leaves are well suited to multiple infusions, with later brews often becoming softer and slightly sweeter in character. For a stronger cup, use more leaf rather than extending the steep time too far.

I love this tea

This is a strong earthy tea that I absolutely love in the mornings. I am addicted to it and High Teas has the best Pu Erh I have found. The tea has healthful, probiotic benefits and doesn't cause any nausea--as other black teas sometimes can on an empty stomach. I have been and will continue to purchase this wonderful tea.
