Our Russian Caravan loose leaf tea Tsar Nicholas is a smooth, lightly smoky black tea blend with a measured touch of Lapsang Souchong for added depth and warmth. Rich in character without becoming overpowering, it offers a clear amber cup, gentle toasted notes and a bright, well-rounded finish — a rewarding tea to enjoy plain, with milk or with a slice of lemon.
Russian Caravan Loose Leaf Tea with Gentle Smoky Depth
Tsar Nicholas Russian Caravan is inspired by one of the great traditions of the tea world. Historic caravan routes carried Chinese tea across Mongolia and Siberia into Russia, giving rise to blends prized for their warming, subtly smoky character.
This version captures that style with restraint. A smooth black tea base is lifted by a carefully balanced amount of Lapsang Souchong, creating a cup that feels aromatic, rounded and quietly distinctive.
Lightly Smoky, Smooth and Well Balanced
In the cup, this Russian Caravan loose leaf tea brews to a deep, warm amber liquor with a gently woody aroma. The smokiness is present, but never heavy.
Instead, it works as a soft background note that adds complexity to the black tea, followed by a lively finish that keeps the blend clean and highly drinkable.
A Classic Black Tea with Lapsang Souchong Character
Lapsang Souchong is known for its pine-smoked warmth, and here it is used with a careful hand. The result is not a strongly smoked tea, but a more refined black tea blend with subtle toastiness and a mellow, comforting depth.
It is an excellent choice for anyone curious about smoky teas, or for drinkers who enjoy traditional black tea but want something with a little more personality.

Enjoy Plain, with Milk or with Lemon
Served plain, Tsar Nicholas shows its clearest smoky complexity and rounded black tea character. A splash of milk softens the blend and brings out a little more sweetness.
A thin slice of lemon is also a classic pairing, adding brightness and echoing the Russian style of tea drinking that helped make Caravan blends famous.
How to Brew Russian Caravan Loose Leaf Tea
Use freshly boiled water at 100°C and add one heaped teaspoon per cup. Steep for 3 to 4 minutes for a brighter, lightly smoky cup.
For more body and deeper warmth, extend the infusion to around 5 minutes. This blend is forgiving and performs well across a slightly wider brewing range than more delicate teas.
Ingredients
Black tea, Lapsang Souchong.

A lovely Russian Caravan blend, smoky but not too smoky, my new favourite!
The intense smokiness and umami in this tea raise doubts about its naturalness.
Great tea - we have tried several alternatives and none have come close..... really a quite excellent balance of smokiness and strength, a firm fave of ours and everyone we have shared with it..... we have it on repeat order....
Great tasting tea.
