Our Rwanda Rukeri Green OP tea is a rare orthodox loose leaf green tea from the high-altitude Rukeri Estate, with a soft yellow liquor, mellow vegetal freshness and a gentle, clean astringency. Smooth, refined and quietly distinctive, it offers notes of steamed greens, subtle apricot-like sweetness and a refreshing finish — an elegant everyday green tea with genuine single-origin character.
Rwanda Rukeri Green OP Tea from a High-Altitude Estate
Rwanda Rukeri Green OP is an uncommon African loose leaf green tea, produced in a country more widely associated with black tea. The Rukeri Estate is recognised by specialist tea sellers for its orthodox green tea production, making this a particularly interesting choice for drinkers who enjoy origin teas with a less familiar story.
The dark-green, wiry OP leaf gives the tea an elegant appearance before brewing and a polished, composed character once infused.
Mellow, Vegetal and Gently Fruited
In the cup, this Rwanda Rukeri Green OP tea brews to a soft luminous yellow liquor with bright clarity. The flavour is mellow and cleanly astringent, with delicate notes of steamed greens and a subtle fruit-like sweetness that becomes more noticeable as the cup cools. Competitor descriptions similarly emphasise spinach-like or steamed vegetable notes, smooth texture and a refined green tea character.
It is refreshing without being sharp, nuanced without becoming demanding and highly enjoyable as a calm, thoughtful green tea.
Orthodox OP Leaf with Rare Rwandan Character
The OP grade and orthodox processing give this tea more leaf integrity and clarity than a more industrially made tea style. Similar Rukeri listings describe it as a green tea rarity from Rwanda, valued for its whole-leaf character and smooth, slightly astringent cup.
That makes it especially appealing for tea drinkers who enjoy discovering less familiar origins beyond China, Japan and India.

Rwanda Rukeri Green OP is well suited to a calm morning or a still afternoon pause. It has enough character to hold interest, yet its smoothness and measured structure make it easy to enjoy regularly.
It is best taken plain, allowing the tea’s clean vegetal profile and delicate fruit-like nuance to come through fully.
How to Brew Rwanda Rukeri Green OP
Use water cooled to around 80°C and add one teaspoon of leaf per cup. Steep for 2 to 3 minutes.
A 2-minute infusion gives a lighter, more delicate cup. A 3-minute brew brings out more of the tea’s gentle astringency and fuller green tea character.
The leaves can comfortably give a second infusion, producing a slightly softer and quieter cup.
