Sencha Fukujyu is a superior-grade Japanese green tea from one of the country’s most celebrated tea-growing regions. Shizuoka, at the foot of Mount Fuji, is renowned for producing teas with freshness, balance and distinctive green character.
The name Fukujyu is often translated as “deep happiness”, which feels fitting for a tea that is so graceful and rewarding in the cup. It is also sometimes known as Green Spider Leg, a reference to the fine, needle-like shape of the finished leaf.
Fresh, Smooth and Naturally Sweet
Sencha is made by steaming freshly picked tea leaves to halt oxidation, before rolling and drying them into slender needles. This process preserves the tea’s vivid colour and clean, vegetal freshness.
In the cup, Fukujyu gives a clear jade-green infusion with soft golden tones. The flavour is gently grassy and naturally sweet, with a delicate umami depth and a subtle marine quality that is characteristic of fine Japanese sencha.

Served hot, this sencha loose leaf tea is clean, bright and beautifully aromatic. Its natural sweetness and soft savoury depth make it especially satisfying when enjoyed slowly.
It is also excellent cold brewed. Steeping the leaves gently in chilled water creates a smoother, sweeter infusion with a refreshing finish — ideal for warmer days.
How to Brew Sencha Fukujyu Loose Leaf Tea
Use water cooled to around 75°C to 80°C. Freshly boiled water left to rest for a minute or two usually works well.
Add one heaped teaspoon per person and steep for 2 to 3 minutes. A careful brew preserves the tea’s natural sweetness and jade-green colour.
The leaves will give a second infusion, usually lighter and even softer than the first. For cold brew, place the leaves in cold water and refrigerate for 2 to 3 hours before straining.
