Our Smoky Earl Grey loose leaf tea is a bold, beautifully layered black tea that brings together bright natural bergamot with the warm pine-smoked depth of Lapsang Souchong. Built on a lively high-grown Ceylon base, it is citrusy and aromatic at first sip, then gently smoky on the finish — a distinctive Earl Grey for tea drinkers who want a classic blend with greater depth and character.
Smoky Earl Grey Loose Leaf Tea with Bergamot and Lapsang Souchong
Smoky Earl Grey takes the familiar elegance of a traditional Earl Grey and gives it a darker, more intriguing edge. Natural bergamot oil provides the signature citrus lift, while a measured addition of Lapsang Souchong adds warmth, resinous depth and a softly lingering smoky finish.
The result is not an overpowering smoke-heavy tea. Instead, it is a carefully balanced flavoured black tea where citrus, body and smoke work together in a cup that feels polished, bold and highly memorable.
Bright Bergamot over a Smooth Ceylon Black Tea Base
High-grown Ceylon black tea gives this blend its clean structure and lively character. It has enough body to support the bergamot and Lapsang, while remaining bright and refined in the cup.
Natural bergamot oil brings floral citrus aroma and that unmistakable Earl Grey lift. It arrives first on the nose and palate, giving the tea freshness before the deeper smoky note begins to unfold.
Gently Smoky, Full-Bodied and Distinctive
Lapsang Souchong adds the defining twist. Its pine-smoked character brings warmth and complexity, but is used with restraint so the blend stays recognisably Earl Grey rather than becoming a fully smoked black tea.
In the cup, expect deep amber liquor, bright citrus fragrance, rounded black tea body and a soft, lingering smoky finish. It is a tea with real presence — ideal for those who enjoy classic blends but like something a little more unusual.

Excellent Black or Softened with Milk
Served black, this smoky Earl Grey loose leaf tea is at its most expressive. The bergamot feels brighter, the smoke more elegant and the finish more defined.
A small splash of milk also works well, rounding the cup and softening the smoky edges without losing the blend’s distinctive character. It makes a rewarding morning tea or a reflective afternoon cup.
How to Brew Smoky Earl Grey Loose Leaf Tea
Use freshly boiled water at 100°C and add one heaped teaspoon per cup. Steep for 3 to 4 minutes.
Choose the shorter end for a lighter, more bergamot-forward cup. Brew for the full four minutes for greater body and a more noticeable smoky finish.
If you prefer a stronger tea, add slightly more leaf rather than extending the brew time too far, as over-steeping can make the Ceylon base taste sharper.
Ingredients
Ceylon black tea, natural bergamot oil, Lapsang Souchong.

I have been treating myself to this tea for a few years now. It’s the best earl grey I have ever tasted. The combination of the smoke and bergamot is sublime.
This is a great afternoon tea, the touch of Lapsang gives it interest and a boost.
Love the hint of smokey tea without being full on lapsang - love it.
Have been buying this from you for a long time.Really love the flavour and drink it first thing in the morning as well as in the afternoon.
A great mix of tea. My favourite tea is Lapsang Suchong but love this as a alternative.
