Our Smoky rose loose leaf black tea Anna Karenina Blend is a striking combination of pine-smoked Lapsang Souchong and fragrant rose petals. Deep, warming and unexpectedly elegant, it brings together rich woodsmoke, soft dried fruit notes and a gentle floral lift in a cup that is bold enough to intrigue, yet smooth enough to savour slowly.
Smoky Rose Loose Leaf Black Tea with Lapsang Souchong
Anna Karenina Blend, also known as Smoky Rose, is a black tea with genuine character. At its heart is traditional Lapsang Souchong from Fujian Province, famous for its distinctive pine-smoked aroma and full-bodied depth.
Rose petals soften and brighten that intensity, adding a delicate floral sweetness that makes the blend feel more refined and rounded than a straight smoky tea. It is an unusual pairing, and a memorable one.
Pine Smoke, Rose Petals and Real Depth
The Lapsang Souchong base gives the tea its unmistakable smoky personality, with notes of pinewood, warm earthiness and a subtle dried fruit richness as the cup develops.
The rose petals lift the finish beautifully. Rather than masking the smoke, they balance it, adding a soft perfumed quality that keeps the blend poised and surprisingly graceful.
A Distinctive Black Tea for Slower Drinking
In the cup, this smoky rose loose leaf black tea brews to a deep burnished amber liquor with an aroma that is both bold and inviting. The first impression is smoke, but the finish is gentler, floral and lingering.
It is a strong choice for tea drinkers who enjoy Lapsang Souchong but want something with a softer edge, or for anyone looking for a black tea that feels genuinely different from the everyday.
At a Glance
- Tea type: Flavoured loose leaf black tea

- Key ingredient: Rose petals
- Flavour: Smoky, floral, woody and softly sweet
- Liquor: Deep burnished amber
- Best enjoyed: Without milk, though a small splash can be added
Best Enjoyed Without Milk
Anna Karenina Blend is especially rewarding served black, where the interplay between smoky tea and fragrant rose can be appreciated most clearly.
A small splash of milk is possible if you prefer a softer cup, but the tea’s distinctive balance is most vivid without it. It is an excellent choice for a slow afternoon brew or a rich after-dinner cup.
How to Brew Smoky Rose Loose Leaf Black Tea
Use freshly boiled water at 100°C and add one heaped teaspoon per cup. Steep for 3 to 4 minutes.
A shorter infusion allows more of the rose character to remain prominent. A longer brew deepens the smoky Lapsang Souchong notes considerably, so taste as you go to find your preferred balance.
Ingredients
Lapsang Souchong black tea, rose petals.

Anna Karenina Blend aka Smoky Rose
Only a scant teaspoon per cup, in a ball infuser, is required with a relatively brief brewing time of no more than three minutes. Brewed longer leaves a rather bitter aftertaste. Although recommended as ideal after dinner, I find AK delicious at breakfast with croissants.
