Spicy Rooibos is a warming, naturally caffeine free loose leaf herbal infusion that brings together South African redbush and a carefully composed selection of aromatic spices. The result is a rich, full-bodied cup with a natural earthy sweetness at its heart and a depth of warmth that makes it as comforting as it is flavourful.
Rooibos — or redbush — is harvested from the Aspalathus linearis plant, which grows only in the Cederberg mountain region of South Africa's Western Cape. It has been enjoyed by the indigenous Khoisan people for centuries and cultivated commercially since the early twentieth century. Unlike true tea from the Camellia sinensis plant, rooibos contains no caffeine and no tannins, which means it brews without any bitterness and is gentle on the stomach at any time of day.
The spices in this blend have been chosen with real care. Cardamom seeds and pods bring a fragrant, slightly citrusy warmth; cinnamon pieces add a deeper, honeyed sweetness; and cloves contribute the rich, aromatic intensity that gives the blend its backbone. Pink pepper introduces a lively, subtly sharp note that keeps the cup from ever feeling heavy, while vanilla pieces round everything out with a smooth, lingering sweetness that makes the last sip as satisfying as the first.

Brewing Note: Spicy Rooibos brews beautifully with fully boiling water — 100°C — and benefits from a generous steep of 7 to 10 minutes to give the spices time to fully open and the rooibos to develop its characteristic deep, red liquor. Use around one heaped teaspoon per cup. Unlike most teas, rooibos will not turn bitter if left a little longer, so there is no need to watch the clock. This blend is also excellent cold brewed — steep in cold water for 6 to 8 hours in the fridge for a smooth, refreshing iced infusion, particularly good with a squeeze of orange.
