Our Ti Kuan Yin loose leaf oolong tea Blue Spring is a rare and beautifully distinctive Chinese oolong from Anxi, Fujian, formed into blue-green pebbles with blue mallow flowers and a fine liquorice sugar glaze. Softly floral, naturally sweet and wonderfully smooth, it unfurls gradually in the cup to reveal orchid-like fragrance, pale golden liquor and a lingering sweetness that needs no milk or added sugar.

Ti Kuan Yin Loose Leaf Oolong Tea from Anxi, Fujian

Blue Spring Oolong is a striking variation on one of China’s most celebrated tea styles. At its heart is special grade Ti Kuan Yin oolong, grown in the high-altitude gardens of Anxi County in Fujian Province, a region renowned for producing elegant, floral oolongs.

The spring-harvested leaves are tightly rolled into small pebbles, then finished with blue mallow flowers and a delicate liquorice sugar glaze. This gives the tea its unmistakable appearance and its softly sweet, highly individual character.

Floral Oolong with a Gentle Natural Sweetness

As Blue Spring infuses, the tightly rolled leaves slowly open and the liquorice coating dissolves into the cup. The result is a smooth, rounded sweetness that complements rather than overwhelms the floral tea beneath.

Expect pale golden liquor, orchid-like aroma, soft blossom notes and a clean, lingering finish. It is a tea with real charm: unusual enough to intrigue, yet elegant enough to return to often.

A Distinctive Chinese Oolong Tea for Slow Brewing

Blue Spring is especially rewarding for tea drinkers who enjoy a little theatre in the teapot. The blue-green pebbles gradually unfurl as they steep, while the liquor deepens from pale gold to a warmer amber tone.

Its flavour develops gently over repeated infusions, becoming softer and more delicate with each brew. This makes it ideal for relaxed afternoon drinking or a more considered gaiwan-style tea session.

Beautiful in a Teapot or Gaiwan

This Blue Spring oolong is delightful brewed simply in a roomy teapot, where the rolled leaves have space to open. It is equally rewarding prepared more slowly in a gaiwan, allowing several shorter infusions to reveal the tea’s shifting character.

Drink it plain. The natural sweetness from the glaze and the soft floral quality of the oolong give the cup everything it needs.

How to Brew Blue Spring Ti Kuan Yin Oolong Tea

Use water at around 85°C to 90°C. Because the leaves are tightly rolled and lightly glazed, a brief rinse is worthwhile: pour over hot water, swirl gently for a few seconds, then discard.

For the main infusion, steep for 2 to 3 minutes for a lighter, more floral cup, or up to 4 minutes for a fuller amber brew with greater sweetness.

The leaves will give 3 to 4 good infusions, each becoming softer and more delicate as they unfurl. A clear glass teapot makes the brewing especially attractive.

Use freshly boiled water (95–100°C) and steep 1 teaspoon of tea for 3–5 minutes, depending on your preferred strength. It pairs well with milk due to its malty character.
