🍵 The Gift — A thoughtfully composed pair of stocking fillers for any tea lover, offering a genuine tasting range of English-grown teas in a format that is easy to wrap, easy to give, and a pleasure to receive

Tregothnan is one of the most extraordinary stories in British tea. The estate near Truro in Cornwall has been home to the Boscawen family since 1334, and it was here — thanks to a uniquely sheltered microclimate moderated by a deep inland sea creek — that the very first tea in the United Kingdom was successfully grown. When the first crop was produced in 2005, it put the English back into English tea in a way that had never been possible before. These two stocking filler boxes are a wonderful introduction to the Tregothnan range, and a gift with genuine character and provenance behind it.

Each of the two festive boxes contains eight individually foil-wrapped tea bag sachets, offering a curated mix of Tregothnan's black and herbal teas. The black tea sachets draw on Cornish-grown Camellia sinensis leaves — the same species nurtured on the estate since 1999 — blended with premium Assam and Darjeeling to create full-bodied, malty, warmly satisfying cups. The herbal selection reaches into the estate's remarkable botanical heritage: chamomile grown on the Tregothnan estate itself, whole-leaf peppermint cold-cured to preserve its fresh, bright oils, fragrant lemon verbena, and the estate's distinctive red berry blend of Cornish apples, strawberries, raspberries, English marigolds, and blue cornflowers.

Together, the two boxes give a recipient something genuinely different from a standard tea gift — a range of flavours, the pleasure of variety, and the quiet satisfaction of knowing each sachet comes from somewhere with real roots in the British landscape. The sachets are completely plastic-free, making them a thoughtful choice in more ways than one.

Since 2008, High Teas London has been one of the country's leading independent tea specialists. With over 350 teas and infusions — one of the largest collections in the country — we have always looked for teas with a story as interesting as their flavour, and Tregothnan fits that brief as well as any tea we carry.

Ingredients: Box 1 (Black Tea Selection) — Cornish tea leaves, Assam, Darjeeling, bergamot oil. Box 2 (Herbal Tea Selection) — Peppermint, chamomile, lemon verbena, strawberry, raspberry, apple, English marigold, cornflower.

Brewing Note: With two boxes in hand, the fun is in exploring the range. For the black teas, use freshly drawn water brought just to the boil and steep each sachet for three to four minutes — a little longer if you prefer a stronger cup. All take milk well, though the Afternoon blend is equally enjoyable without. For the herbal sachets, use fully boiling water and allow four to five minutes for the flavour to develop fully. The peppermint and lemon verbena are particularly rewarding when left to steep on the longer side, while the chamomile softens gently and can be enjoyed right up until bedtime.

Use freshly boiled water (95–100°C) and steep 1 teaspoon of tea for 3–5 minutes, depending on your preferred strength. It pairs well with milk due to its malty character.
