Decaf loose leaf teas are a very different proposition from the flat, compromised cups that once defined the category. All our decaffeinated teas use the supercritical CO2 process — the most natural and flavour-preserving approach to decaffeination — removing 95 to 97 per cent of caffeine while leaving aromatic oils, antioxidants and the full character of the leaf completely intact.

Our decaffeinated loose leaf tea collection delivers all the flavour, none of the caffeine. Choose from traditional decaf black teas or explore Earl Grey, Dimbula, breakfast and rooibos decaf varieties.
Why Choose Decaffeinated Loose Leaf Tea?
Indeed, here at High Teas we understand that nobody wants to sacrifice their daily brew even when cutting down on caffeine. We get through rather a lot of cups ourselves at High Teas HQ — which is precisely why we have curated a special decaffeinated loose leaf tea collection.
Moreover, all our decaf teas have been rigorously taste tested, so we can bring you teas which are totally free of caffeine yet jam-packed full of flavour. You really do not have to compromise.
The CO2 Decaffeination Process
Indeed, all our decaffeinated loose leaf tea is processed using the CO2 method — the most popular and most natural form of decaffeination. Liquid carbon dioxide is mixed with the tea leaves under high pressure and temperature until it becomes a solvent.
Furthermore, this solvent attracts the small caffeine molecules and leaves the larger flavour molecules behind — which is why our decaffeinated loose leaf tea retains so much of its character. One of the biggest benefits of this method is that it preserves the flavour, composition and health benefits of the tea, with no chemicals used.
Our Decaffeinated Loose Leaf Tea Range
Additionally, we aim to bring you a wide range of teas in decaffeinated form. Why not try a delicious Decaf Darjeeling? Or perhaps our Evening Earl Grey as a perfect late-night cup? If you've struggled to find a decent decaffeinated English Breakfast, our Dimbula OP is as perfect a morning brew as you could hope for.
Furthermore, for those who simply prefer to avoid caffeine — or for a safe cup during pregnancy — our decaffeinated loose leaf tea range is second to none. And don't forget that most of our herbal teas, fruit infusions, rooibos and wellness teas are also naturally caffeine free!

The Science of Great Decaf
Not all decaffeination is equal, and the method matters enormously. Many commercially decaffeinated teas use chemical solvents that strip the caffeine quickly but take much of the flavour with them. Our entire collection uses a completely different approach: supercritical CO2 decaffeination, which operates at 250 to 300 times atmospheric pressure, causing carbon dioxide to enter a state where it behaves simultaneously as a liquid and a gas. In that state it becomes highly selective — targeting the small caffeine molecules while leaving the larger flavour compounds, aromatic oils, amino acids and antioxidants completely untouched. The result is a closed-loop, chemical-free process that removes 95 to 97 per cent of caffeine while preserving everything that makes a tea worth drinking. It is the only decaffeination method approved for organic teas, and the only process we use.
Flavour and Character
Three teas show the range within this collection well. Dimbula OP Decaf is built to perform as a proper morning tea: the Ceylon base delivers the brightness, body and clean flavour of a classic breakfast brew with none of the caffeine — one of the most convincing decaffeinated black teas you will find. Evening Earl Grey Decaffeinated takes the unmistakable bergamot character of a classic Earl Grey and makes it genuinely evening-friendly: aromatic, satisfying and entirely suitable for the last cup of the day. Decaf Darjeeling brings a lighter, more elegant profile — the muscatel and floral qualities that make Darjeeling so distinctive are preserved through the CO2 process, producing a decaffeinated tea that genuinely earns comparison with its caffeinated equivalent.
Brewing Decaf Tea
Decaffeinated teas brew in exactly the same way as their caffeinated counterparts. Dimbula OP Decaf suits freshly boiled water and three to four minutes of steeping, with milk to taste — it performs as well as any morning black tea in every respect. Evening Earl Grey is best taken black and steeped for three to four minutes, where the bergamot comes through clearly and the cup feels properly satisfying as a late-evening drink. Decaf Darjeeling is best enjoyed at a slightly cooler temperature — around 90°C — for two to three minutes without milk, where the delicate floral and muscatel notes are most apparent.
Beyond these three, the collection continues to grow as we work to offer more of our teas in decaffeinated form. Because nobody should have to choose between a great cup and a good night's sleep.
