At High Teas London, our teabags are not the ordinary kind. We use only whole, unbroken loose leaf tea in our pyramid bags, which means you are getting exactly the same quality of tea as you would find in our tins and pouches, simply in a more convenient format. Our teas are never formulated or ground down to suit the constraints of a bag; the bag is designed to suit the tea.

Why Pyramid Bags Make All the Difference

The shape of a tea bag matters far more than most people realise. Traditional flat bags compress the leaves tightly, restrict water flow, and typically require lower-grade tea dust — known as "fannings" — to brew in such a confined space. The result is often a flat, dusty-tasting cup that has cooled before it has fully steeped. Our pyramid bags are entirely different. With a three-dimensional structure and significantly more room inside, the leaves can circulate freely in the water, closely mimicking what happens in a teapot or infuser and allowing the full flavour and aroma to develop properly. The more open, porous mesh also means faster brewing at a higher water temperature — so your cup is hotter and more flavourful from the very first sip.

Plastic-Free and Proud

Choosing fully biodegradable tea bags was never in question for us. It may surprise you to learn that many household-name tea brands still use bags containing thermoplastic fibres — and even a tiny amount of plastic means the bag will never fully decompose. Studies have shown that a single plastic teabag can release billions of microplastic particles directly into your cup during brewing, with the remainder ending up in our oceans, rivers and soil. We believe this is both unnecessary and entirely avoidable, which is why every pyramid bag in our range is 100% biodegradable.
