🍵 The Blend — A China and Ceylon loose leaf black tea from the celebrated French house Dammann Frères, layered with caramel, cherry, strawberry, and vanilla for a sweet, fruit-kissed cup
🍵 The Colour — Pours a warm, deep amber with a gentle, fruity fragrance that rises invitingly from the cup before the first sip
🍵 The Character — Softly sweet and gently indulgent, with ripe cherry and strawberry at the fore, a buttery caramel warmth beneath, and vanilla smoothing everything to a long, rounded finish
🍵 The Occasion — A naturally sweet afternoon tea that needs no sugar, equally well suited to a quiet moment alone or to serving as something a little special when guests arrive
Few flavoured black teas carry as much romance as Paul & Virginie — a signature creation from Dammann Frères, one of the most distinguished tea houses in France. The blend takes its name from the beloved 1788 novel by Bernardin de Saint-Pierre, a story of innocent love set on the tropical island of Mauritius that became one of the most widely read works in French literary history. It is a fitting inspiration: tender, fragrant, and deeply pleasurable.
The foundation is a carefully selected blend of China and Ceylon black teas — two origins that complement each other with quiet elegance. Chinese black tea brings a smooth, mellow depth, while Ceylon contributes brightness and a clean, lively structure. Together they provide the ideal base for the quartet of flavourings — caramel, cherry, strawberry, and vanilla — that give this tea its distinctive, softly sweet character.
In the cup, the fruit notes lead: ripe cherry and sun-warmed strawberry come forward cleanly and naturally, without any artificial sharpness. Behind them, the caramel settles in with a buttery, gentle warmth, and the vanilla wraps everything in a smooth, rounded finish. It is a tea that manages to feel indulgent without being heavy — sweet enough to need nothing added, yet balanced enough to remain unmistakably a quality black tea.
The 100g tin not only keeps the leaf in perfect condition but makes this an exceptionally elegant gift — the kind of tea that gives a very good first impression.
Since 2008, High Teas London has been one of the country's leading independent tea specialists. With over 350 teas and infusions in our range — one of the largest collections anywhere in the country — we have always believed that the right tea can turn an ordinary moment into something far more memorable. Paul & Virginie is exactly that kind of tea.
Ingredients: Black tea (China and Ceylon), caramel, cherry, strawberry, vanilla.
Brewing Note: Paul & Virginie is a forgiving, approachable blend that rewards a little care. Use freshly boiled water and allow it to cool for no more than a minute before pouring — around 95°C is ideal for preserving the delicate fruit and vanilla notes without any bitterness. Use one heaped teaspoon per cup and steep for three to four minutes. The tea is naturally sweet and is best enjoyed without milk, though a small splash of whole milk works well for those who prefer it. For an easy and rewarding cold option, brew at double strength and pour over ice for a particularly elegant iced tea.
