Jasmine Dragon Pearls is one of the most celebrated and visually captivating loose leaf green teas in the Chinese tradition — a hand-rolled jasmine green tea with a history stretching back over a thousand years to the tea gardens of Fujian Province. Each small pearl is formed from fine early-spring green tea leaves and unopened buds, carefully selected for their downy softness and natural sweetness, then hand-rolled with great skill before being layered with fresh jasmine blossoms and left to absorb their fragrance. This scenting process is repeated multiple times — each round using newly picked flowers — to build the rich, full jasmine character that sets a premium pearl tea apart from lighter, single-scented versions.

The name has its roots in the Chinese term Long Tuan Zhu, meaning Dragon Ball Jasmine Tea, and the tea has long been associated with ceremony, refinement, and the art of slow brewing. What makes Jasmine Dragon Pearls particularly special is the balance it achieves: the jasmine fragrance is intense and immediate, but never overwhelming. The green tea beneath it has genuine presence — a fuller, more expressive character than many jasmine teas — and as the pearls slowly unfurl in the cup, the two elements come together in a way that is both harmonious and memorable.

The liquor is a beautiful pale golden-green, clear and luminous, with a sweetness that is entirely natural. The initial floral rush gives way to a wonderfully clean aftertaste — refreshing, polished, and free of any bitterness. Brewing in a glass vessel makes the most of the visual experience, as the pearls open gradually like small blossoms, releasing their fragrance as they do.

Brewing Note: Jasmine Dragon Pearls reward a little care at the brewing stage. Use water at around 80 to 85°C — water that is too hot can flatten the delicate floral notes and introduce unwanted bitterness. Place a small handful of pearls in your cup or teapot and steep for 3 to 4 minutes for the first infusion. The pearls will unfurl slowly, and the liquor will deepen as they open. These leaves brew beautifully two or three times; the second infusion is often the smoothest, with the jasmine becoming a little softer and the green tea character more prominent. A glass teapot or clear cup makes the most of the spectacle — watching the pearls blossom as they brew is half the pleasure of this tea.
