Tea Varieties in India

Whilst the famous Darjeeling and Assam regions of India are certainly the best-known producers of Indian teas, they are by no means the final word in tea varieties in India. The Nilgiri and Sikkim regions are extremely well regarded for their fine teas, and we are pleased to offer some of the best varieties from these regions.  

If any tea can capture the essence of India, it is Chai - a heady mix of strong black tea with a mix of spices and herbs, traditionally made with milk and sweeteners. Our chai teas vary from the classic to more unusual and exciting versions, including rose chai and vanilla chai, for added flavour sensations!  

Unlike Darjeeling and Assam teas, Nilgiris are harvested throughout the year. Known for their fresh, lively taste and lemony, woody aromas. The Nilgiris we stock are sourced from a variety of award-winning single estates. 

The Thiashola Estate is a pioneer in biodynamic agriculture and produces arguably the finest black tea in the South of India. Its multicoloured uneven leaf is reminiscent of first flush teas in Assam. This flavourful, organic tea has bright amber leaves and gives a vivid cup colour with a lively, refreshing flavour that includes notes of citrus and honey.

We have a vast selection of India tea from the Nilgiri region that all give you a different tea drinking experience. Our Nilgiri Glendale is a jammy character tea from the premier tea estate. It is an excellent quality with a delightful flavour that is jammy and rich. It’s certainly a great tea to introduce the Glendale Estate to your tastebuds, showing you just what teas from India can be. As well as this, we offer the Nilgiri blue mountain tea from the Tiger Hill Estate. This is a much more mellow tea that is high grown to give you a clean and fruity finish. This lighter version of tea is perfect for those who prefer a fruity punch rather than a spicy and full-bodied aftertaste.  

We also provide a collection of loose-leaf tea from India in the Dimbula region, giving you a variety of flavours for all times of the day. Our Dimbula breakfast tea is the perfect wake up buddy as it packs a punch with its potent flavours. It gives you plenty of body and strength, so is ideal for those tea lovers who desire colour and strength with depth and plenty of flavour. Alongside this, our Dimbula OP1 from the Pettiagalla Estate is a milder tea that is one of our bestsellers! Even though it’s milder, it is still very aromatic as it has malty and citrus undertones. As it’s brewing, you can enjoy its sweet floral aroma that can help calm you, which is perfect for sipping in the evening before bed. 

Chai tea is one of the most loved tea varieties in India and we stock a variety of scrumptious chai teas that will awaken your senses. Our traditional Indian spiced chai is a legendary chai recipe that uses pepper, cinnamon and cardamom to give you a superb body with mellow Indian spice notes. This loose leaf tea from India is a coppery and bright taste that pairs perfectly with milk. It will truly blow your mind with all of the flavours working together to give you a yummy treat for your tastebuds! We also have a Masala chai which is the house choice and includes delicious cardamom, cinnamon, ginger and black tea.
