A naturally caffeine-free tea, Honeybush is named after the sweet, honey-like scent of its flowers. A cousin of Rooibos tea, the taste is a little sweeter than Rooibos with a clean, fresh finish. Honeybush is native to the Cederberg District (the Western Cape) of South Africa. Dutch botanical records from the area make mention of Honeybush consumption as far back as the mid to late 1600's. The first mention of the consumption of Honeybush as a caffeine free tea substitute outside of South Africa however appeared almost 200 years later. A pharmacological handbook published in the US in 1898 titled 'King's American Dispensary' makes mention under the heading 'Tea of Honeybush' as an acceptable tea substitute manufactured in the Cape Colony of South Africa, then governed by the Dutch East India Company. Traditionally Honeybush was entirely collected by hand from bushes that grew wild in the region's mountainous terrain. Even today it is still quite common for commercially available Honeybush to be harvested by hand.

Loving getting back to loose leaf tea (as opposed to teabags) and in particular Honeybush tea which I've not had since leaving South Africa in '96. This honeybush tea has a slightly different flavour to what I've been used to, but is still refreshing and very enjoyable. Will definitely order again
A distinctive elegant tea. With a slightly refreshing aftertaste.
As I am not allowed to drink too much of my favorite black teas, especially Assam and Nilgiri this East Cape organic Honeybush is a very tastefull alternative.
