🍵 The Blend — A superior three-origin Earl Grey combining fine Yunnan, smooth Keemun and bright Ceylon black teas, scented with natural bergamot oil for a fragrant, well-rounded cup
🍵 The Colour — Pours a deep, warm amber with a luminous clarity, filling the room with that unmistakable citrus-floral bergamot fragrance as soon as the water hits the leaf
🍵 The Character — Full-bodied yet refined, with the earthiness of Yunnan, the quiet depth of Keemun and the brightness of Ceylon all lifted by a fresh, natural bergamot note
🍵 The Occasion — Equally well suited to a considered morning brew or a civilised afternoon cup; composed and satisfying with or without milk
Earl Grey Excelsior Superior Loose Leaf Black Tea is a premium loose leaf Earl Grey built on a three-origin black tea foundation — Yunnan, Keemun and Ceylon — and scented with natural bergamot oil for a bergamot black tea of genuine refinement. Where many Earl Grey teas lean heavily on a single base, this blend draws something different from each of its components: the Yunnan contributes a soft, mellow earthiness with a faintly honeyed note, the Keemun brings a quiet smokiness and smooth nuance, and the Ceylon adds body and a clean, bright finish that lifts the whole cup.
The bergamot oil used here is natural rather than synthetic, and the difference is evident from the first pour. The citrus fragrance is expressive without being sharp, wrapping around the depth of the three black teas rather than masking them. The result is a loose leaf Earl Grey tea that feels both familiar and noticeably more complex than the standard — recognisably classic in character but with a layered quality that rewards attention.
Earl Grey itself has a rich history. The blend takes its name from the second Earl Grey, British Prime Minister in the 1830s, and has been one of the most beloved flavoured teas in Britain ever since. This Excelsior version honours that tradition while offering something a step above the everyday.
High Teas London was founded in 2008 with a simple aim: to bring genuinely exceptional tea to as many cups as possible. With one of the largest collections in the country — over 350 teas and infusions from gardens and blenders across the world — this is a range built on quality, curiosity and care.
Ingredients: Black tea (Yunnan, Keemun, Ceylon), natural bergamot oil.
Brewing Note: Earl Grey Excelsior is best brewed with water that has just come off the boil — around 95°C rather than a full rolling boil, which can dull the bergamot note. Use one heaped teaspoon per cup and steep for three to four minutes. This tea takes milk well, which softens the citrus and lets the depth of the Keemun and Yunnan come forward, but it is equally rewarding drunk without — particularly if you want the full bergamot fragrance to shine. Avoid over-steeping, as the Ceylon component can turn slightly astringent beyond five minutes.
