This is a pan-fired Sencha tea blended with toasted and popped rice. The cup is full-bodied and sweet with an attractive baked character. Very popular in Japan. This is a speciality Japanese style green tea (normally a high grade of Japan Sencha) that is blended with fire-toasted rice. The fresh, vegetative character of the green tea is imparted on the cup but it is tempered with the bakery-like character of the rice. There is a natural sweetness and almost chewy character to the finish of this tea. During the firing of the rice, it is not uncommon for rice to 'pop' not unlike popcorn, hence the pet name 'popcorn-tea'.

Please note: In order to become more environmentally-friendly we no longer add large coloured labels to our tea packets. Simply peel off the small name label from the back of your packet to make it totally biodegradable! Gift tubes are as shown.

Interesting

The toasted rice is a very nice flavour. Unfortunately, my batch was more rice than tea.

Delicious

More than just a green tea! The toasted rice adds such an interesting warming, rounded, satisfying drink.
It took me a few cups at first to realise how nice this is.
1 tsp tea, water @80C, and brew fully 5 mins.
